I thought there was a "definitive" statement that the G class would be continued up to 2010, allowing for model updates and a "surprise" or two along the way.
Then I read that the G class may not continue within the US market at all.
Who has the definitive statement from MBUSA, and can they publish it to clear up my confusion ( I might be alone, in my confused state, but I doubt it).
My interest in answering this question is that I have G55K on the boat, but if there is going to a diesel then I can wait, a while longer for the 07. Especially since the last year of production precipitated my buying decision (for a variety of reason I don't buy used) and I want another G series.
A diesel G with all that torque would be as (more?) useful than the G55K.
Please keep your confusion to one post. This topic is lively being discussed in other threads.
There is so much BS floating around in other threads that I though I would try and short circuit it to get to the bottom line, I'm that kind of guy, so I could come to a desision.
Now that I know you are the "keeper" of the threads I will check with you in the future!

My friend, we all want to help you. What mb230s meant was if you could keep your confusion question related to the thread of confusion and cite what confuses you, we would all love to help make things clear for you that are not clear.

Brilliant plan other than your "short circuit" will create another thread spreading the speculation in more posts. I also don't think most of the speculation on this subject would clarify as BS and I have found it all informative. People have well placed opinions, some people have research to back it up, others know people in the company. The fact is that until the 2007 hits a showroom floor we may not know the exact details. If you depend on web forums for 100% decisive answers you will be very disappointed. There is always Wikipedia.
Dutch and Brent are the keeper of the threads, not me. Most will agree use of the search feature and responding to existing posts is much more pleasing to most forum users.
regarding torque... per haralds experience, the 5.5 liter motor was his absolute favorite off road. for going up and engine braking going down. Engine braking force (crawling down hill) i believe is more or less the product of engine displacement. i think he preferred the g500 to the g400cdi for example for that reason. Search "coasta rica" as harald has posted all about this particular experience in different trucks when he was there.
HOWEVER, the 500 being better than the 400 and so on in no way precludes the fact that g-wagens have been going crazy places for years with 2.3 liter gas and 2.4 liter diesels and with brakes much smaller than any current truck... the reality is that it's much more a matter of "wants" than "needs". AlanMcR has a 300gdt and he's quite pleased with the torque... (and he can run veggie too).

The word I have from a well placed source inside of the DCAG G-Klasse management is:
1.) MBUSA will continue to sell the G-Class as the G500 and G55K for sure.
2.) There is the possibility of a G320CDI coming to the US later.
This information is current as of a week and a half ago. I also have second hand information from within MBUSA more recently which confirms this.
Forget about the old threads. The situation was up in the air until 11 November when DCAG in Stuttgart issued their press statement. MBUSA was informed during the following week.
