| Tech Question about G500 Tranfer case I still have not got off my butt and ordered any manuals yet, so sorry if I offend anyone asking this seemingly basic question, but how is the G500 transfer case designed, and in particular the low-range reduction?
I'm assuming it's an all-gear conventional design with an intermediate gear set and common-axis front/rear differential output. If so, then the load would have to be removed to shift from low to high range. Is this correct? Or is it perhaps a planetary reduction (like a Range Rover) which can be shifted without completely removing the loads, i.e. in gear?
The reason I ask is I keep reading references to the shifting "on the fly" in a G500 like the 460 transfers could do (while de-clutching). I seem to recall the G500 manual said to put the transmission in neutral, then shift. By the way, I personally believe the 460 transfer is the finest part-time case ever designed - bar none.
