Bad Vibrations

Guy came by with a G 230 today, tearing his hair out about the vibration he was getting from his G.
Had been to a MB dealer who had quoted him the cost of buying a small country to replace props rebuild axles etc etc.
Real fault found in 10 minuets and here is the picture of the problem.

Cost to fix, a large drink in a quiet pub, after a good steak of course.

RE: Bad Vibrations

That is an engine mount, if I'm not mistaken[:D]

I have 2 brand new ones lined up to go into my converted G at one point as per 4x4ranchers recommendation. Better safe than sorry[;)]

Ok I’ll guess: rear rubber mounting A460 240 57 18 – only a guess though

RE: Bad Vibrations

That is the gearbox support rubber. Can't figure out why those wheel bolts are in the picture.
The mount isn't cheap though. Just a pint wouldn't do it...

UG gets the prize,Kashi, close but no cigar,(hows married life?) it's a gearbox mount, wheel bolts just happen to be on the bench and the 300 autobox just happens to be on the floor.
They aren't that expensive, and here a large drink is more than a pint.

UG gets the prize,Kashi, close but no cigar,(hows married life?) it's a gearbox mount,
aka the rear engine mount. I replaced one on my 280GE and it made a major improvement in vibrations. The rubber on mine had turned to mush from leaking ATF and heat from the front muffler which was directly under it.

RE: Bad Vibrations

You were in the right area, and if you grease your props as often as you say now you would have seen it.
First thing to look for when the vibrations set in, worn out mounts. Whats this I hear, Marshaling at Landrover events, Havent the G police been round to see you yet??
