200 GE

Anybody has some experience with a 200 GE? I found one in very good condition, but I'm doubting the engine: is it strong enough? The torque isn't that high...

RE: 200 GE

Hello,
I drove that engine on many Sedan, you can barely feel the difference between it and the 230E, both engine are solid ones, concerning the torque, it's not high nor sufficient but you will get used to it.

It's a SWB right?

Regards

Anthony

RE: 200 GE

It's a SWB, yes, and it's top-gepflegt -or something like that- like the Germans like to call it.
Belgian tax laws will probably make the 300D very expensive by the end of the year, and I was looking for an alternative for my 300D anyhow, so why not a petrol version of the G? But I drove this 200GE and it seemed very weak to me. I have no experience with the 230GE, but if you tell me that it has the same performance... They really need to get high in the revs...

RE: 200 GE

Pol,
I personally think that the 200E engine is stronger than your current 300D engine, if u felt it's weaker i think it needs to be checked up, injections, filters etc... However the 200 and 230 E engines are far from being performing torque-wise, and they're still weak for a 2tonns truck.

Personally i'd go for a 200 or a 230 G because i find the 300 D engine (apart from being the most reliable engine) very dull and lacks of nervosity like most of the diesel engine from that era. However be aware that both 200 and 230 are very thirsty engines.

I'll let the more experienced people on this forum tell their opinions and provide you with numbers.

Good luck for your choice
Anthony

RE: 200 GE

It was running on LPG gaz, maybe that explains also.

It had less then 140000 kms on the counter (and on some of the maintenance stickers) so I was not hoping it needed a complete check-up allready.

RE: 200 GE

NOT! Indeed a little bit overprized.

No, it was this one:

Not the cheapest neither, but the price is not fixed. Very clean vehicle.

RE: 200 GE

Ok that one looks a lot better. It has a lot going for it altough I'm not so keen on the rims. 13.000 eur is steep but hey, we live in Belgium so the 2000 cc engine has a lot going for it from a financial point of view We live, afterall, in the "socialist" capital of the world .[:(][xx(]

Hey Mattheus, glad you think the same way about it. My wife also has a 190E 1.8. She bought it new in 1992 and uses it do drive around town (+/- 2.000 km/year). It is absolutely flawless and has never let her down once. She refuses to even look at a C-class because a few of her friends had one and there was always something broken.
