Motor Starter and Wiper Motor

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know if the 240GD uses the same starter motor as the 240D sedans. Also could a wiper motor for a 240D sedan work on my G.

The agency gave me the followinng part number for the starter motor: 003 151 0701 is the a common part since it does not include the 460 prefix as some unique parts for my G.

One last question, I recently changed glow plugs on my G thinking that could be the problem for the cold starts. I turn the key and I get nothing from the engine. I pushed my G down hill and it started (however, the glow plug light remained on even after starting. I turned the engine off since I didn't want to burn the glow.) Is this an indication of a faulty starter. Thanks

RE: Motor Starter and Wiper Motor

starter from 240 or 300 sedans is same
wiper motor is not same
glow light must go out after starting
if not relay is defective and will burn out glow plugs.
cheers warren

RE: Motor Starter and Wiper Motor

i just went thru this with the wiper motor. im not 100% sure, but i am almost positive the wiper motor for the sedan will work...you just have to desolder the connector pigtail off of the new wiper motor and solder the g's connector to the wiper motor. basically all wiper motors are the same from bosch they just have different pigtail connectors. go to thepartsbin.com or autopartsauthority.com enter like 1980 for the year and mercedes and look at the wiper motors they offer and decide which one comes close to the one you have.
the part that wears out in the wiper motor is not the motor, but the plastic gear in the top of the motor assembly. if you take the three screws out that hold the cover to the gear housing you will see a plastic gear about 3-4" in diameter, with copper brush tracks. take the disc out and look at the teeth. they are probably ate up, as mine were.
