I am considering parting with my current G. Since I am moving from southern Fl to southern Wisconsin, I expect that a hardtop would be slightly more comfortable during the colder months. Can anyone give me an idea what a 300GD, 5-speed, leather Recaro front seats (no rear seat), 120k miles would be worth? In general the body is in good condition but there is a little rust around the bottom of the doors.
The five speed is a plus but may not be as durable as the four speed. The rust is a big minus. If I were buying a vehicle that showed rust, I would be checking everywhere else: under floormats, in the wheel wells front and back, tail light and rear gate frame, inside bumpers and spring towers, etc. If it has been in salt the fuel tank may show some rusting on the top side.
The condition of the top and interior is also a big issue, since both are expensive. Sun burned interior parts may be very difficult to find. Also, with 120,000 miles, there may be some front end service due, as well as timing chain/rail R/R needed.
If everything works and shows some pride of ownership it could be worth 11,000 - 15,000$US, if rust is truly minor and very much isolated to the areas noted. Without rust and in near perfect condition with long long term records and documents, it could be worth significantly more.
You might think of just adding a hardtop. For 2000-3000$ for a used hardtop (they do show up now and then) you could make the vehicle much tighter and comfortable. Wisconsin can get fairly cold in mid winter. A block heater is a must have addition.
Do you have any pictures. Also, check the posts on the GClub, here are a number of 460's for sale there most of the time.
