I am trying to plan my trip. I would like to know what trails we are planning to run. Or should we vote?
I am interested in Prichett Canyon, Hell's Revenge, Metal Masher, Behind the Rocks and another I cannot remember the name of. It is a little know trail that comes out at the Golden Crack and then you exit Golden Bar Rim.
These are all trails I have been on before. I have run Upper Helldarado but I do not plan on doing this trail without a few more modifications.
I will probably spent 5 or 6 days trail riding. [:D] Unless repairs stop me![:(!]
Brent is the trail master for the event. I ran a bunch of trails there in April, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what or how to get there except maybe Moab Rim.
You ran Upper Helderado?!? Wow! I wouldn't take my rig in there for love or money. Most the rigs I saw in there were much more built up than mine and about 20% of them broke. What were you driving?
It looks like the turn out will be good. Right now I have a tenative list of:
Myself
Bob (UK)
Dave G
Brian
Brent
Brad
Erwin
Dutch
Steve D
Tom D
Mike S
Harald P
Others I seem to remember...
Dia
Chris B
Dana E
Brent W (local guy)
MBUSA
I know there are others, who's coming! Let's get a monster turnout for this thing.
I've been talking to Vince and he's still really wanting to be at our event where the wheeling will be. Might only do Thurs-Sat and then head over for the bid trail day at ST on Sunday. I would certainly understand wanting to attend the MBCA event more, but he hasn't been talking that way at all. I'll call him again today. I'll give the USMC guy a call too and see if there is any chance of getting a military G there for dispay. I know a dealer or two that might want to attend as well. Time to crank this thing back up!!
I've also talked to the ST organizer (also a local MBCA guy) and we're going to make sure this doesn't happen again next year.
Thanks for bringing the subject up again. I've been pretty busy bolting parts onto my 280 and 320 in addition to wheeling them several times a week in my new digs in CO.
As far as which trails to run, I think there will definately be two camps. There is no doubt that we will have a good contingent wanting to run the hard trails you listed, including myself. I also expect that there will be a group interested in day trips for scenery and not the hard core wheeling. The beauty is, Moab has both in spades.
I need to get over there one of these days, it is only a 2-3hr trip for me. One thing I have considered is trying to set up a base camp. I will be talking to a couple campgrounds about hogging some space. My ideal would be to get my motorhome set up and a couple adjacent sites maybe with a tent where we can all gather in the mornings and evenings for planning and possibly some meals and socialization time. Fortunately the town is getting pretty quiet by that time of the year so it should work out. I know we have hotel folks and back country campers. There is no way to cater to everyones needs so I figure a common meeting place is the way to go.
Glad to see some interest agian. I hope this years turns out to be the biggest yet! I guess it is also time for me to get off my duff and start providing at least some planning for this event[:I]
I ran upper and lower about 3 years ago. My truck is a 1972 Land Rover SII obviously modified! My friend was in a Toyota FJ40. We were the only people on the trail. We waited until the week after Easter Jeep Safari to go.
