Tech session weekend - something a little different
Has anyone ever done this, or wanted to?
A weekend (Sat and Sun) get together for G owners and their trucks, not for off-roading but for a tech session. If you ever wanted to work on something that you may feel is a bit out of your league, or wanted to watch a certain procedure for future reference this would be the perfect opportunity. We would each bring our manuals, power tools and specialty tools or whatever else you had. We'd end up with lots of tools and expertise that normally you wouldn't have access to. Subject experts would be there to give guidance or assistance. We could all congregate around someone's home/garage (I have someone in mind already[:D], not me). We would spend the night at a near by motel or Inn. We'd have extra cars to drive us back and forth. Beer and lunch would be provided!!!
Is this something others would be interested in?
Drive shaft service
Diff gear swaps
Valve adjustments
Axle service
you name it...

RE: Tech session weekend - something a little different
I'd love to learn how to do anything that no service station near me will have any experience with... service/tension/replace my wheel bearings would be at the very top of the list.
Tensioning/adjusting bearings... as i've learned on bikes, is a sensitive enough job that the more care taken the better the result. There's probably only a few people in the county that have enough experience that would make me want to trust them... and they're out of state as far as i know. Although, harald is near by now that i think about it... but i don't think he's in the repair business.
I just had some prototype wheel guides made from rolled carbon steel (not stainless like the final product) and I'll send one (up to 6) for or every G attending the event. Except you Tom, you won't need them with the stud conversion kit. [8D]
Here's some pictures so you know what I'm talking about. It's basicly that third hand you wish you had when mounting a wheel. Should come in handy for a weekend where wheels are coming off all the time.

Yes, Yes, Yes for Tech day, tool bin check, and naturally, Bier/Beer. Since I am now married, are there wives/girl friends who could get together for a "catch and release" shopping spree? That would help to justify the trip to where (?) San Francisco? Southern Cal.? Portland? Seattle?
