Hopefully you guys remember, Im the one with the flood damaged salvaged G320, 1995. I have replaced the transfer case with a T-case from a 2003 G500. The transplant worked out just fine, except for there is no way to send a signal to the speedo. I did try the basic sending unit computer that Chris Ball had recomended. I think that is a similiar configuration to the way the new G's are set up. The sending unit has three wires, ground-black, red-power and green-impulse. I dont know where to begin to run this to the speedometer I have. Does anyone know anything about this. If not, can anyone think of any alternatives for getting the speedo to work? Im getting close to done this overwhelming project, this is one of the last things, but a big detail. Please Help!!!!
Hello Tom, maybe I didn't get it. You put in a 1995 a Tcase of a 2003. The 2003 Model uses the ABS sensors to generate the Signal onto the Can bus. Your 1995 uses a hall effect Sensor on the T-Case. I am wondering if Mercedes changed the complete Transfercase or just putting a blind where the Speedo angluar gear was connected. Isn't it possible, that you are able to modify the new Tranferbox and bring in the old Speedo sender unit ?
Secondly, if you use a differnt unit to generate the signal, then the 3 Wires your looking for should be located above your transfer case. I bet it was 1996 when Mercedes changed the speedo signal to the Can bus and not 1995 !
There are three wires located above the transfer case, what do those wires each represent? I thought the speed signal had come off of my old transfer case. I know I may sound like a moron, just trying to figure it all out.
these exactly represent B+, Gnd and speed signal. If you look into the connector, the signal line to the cluster is the one that stands in 90degree orientation to the other ones.

the horizontal bar is the speed signal reporting to the speedo
Following this thread with great interest. I should look for three wires above the transfer case, one will be ground, one will be power and the third little piggy (wire) will be the speed sensor. I should be able to find this on my 1995 G320 SWB. Then I can tap into the speed sensor wire for the APS 30 or Harmon Kardon trafic pro GPS wire!
Have I left anything out or is that a way to simple solution for adding GPS. One last question, where is a good place to mount the GPS antenna on a Cabriolet?
