OK, here's something new that just started! When I turn my ignition key, the glow plug light illuminates like its suppossed to but doesn't seem to turn off...I count to 7, turn the key and it starts right up. Now (this just started), instead of the light going out, it BLINKS for about 10 secounds (estimating, didn't count it), and then goes out. I'm alrady off and driving. What would cause this blinking and staying on? The weather's just starting to get cool here in NC, don't want to take a change with failing glow plugs! PS, I did just have a new alternator and battery installed in the car. Thanks.

My 300D 5 cylinder OM617 used to have two mufflers in it. One small bottle type muff near the gearbox and one large one at the tail pipe. One day upon reaching home from my sister's house I noticed that the tail pipe was missing. A closer inspection revealed that the large muffler had fallen somewhere along the road. I just got a piece of pipe welded to make the smoke reach the bumper.

I always drive with the airconditioning on and I did not notice any difference in sound the moment the large muffler fell. Could anyone guide me on the effect (apart from noise) of not having a large muffler on (1)automatic gear shifting (2)diesel consumption (3) engine wear. Should I leave it the way it is or is it advisable to instal a new muffler?

I'm trying to decode my VIN, and decipher the little strip of paper that I discovered under my package tray, in the trunk.

The car is a 1978 450 SEL
the one that worked is from a 1980 300SD

116 033 12 0 87719

I tried the ruskie site, and it accepted my other 116 code (with the WDB added) but not my other 116 code.

Gday fellow merc lovers, I have what seems to be a sticking control plunger in my K-Jetronic fuel injector system. Can anyone tell me how to pull it apart and making it smooth again? I have trouble starting when warm but if I push down on the air-sensor this fixes it everytime. I've heard that I may be able to soak the distributer in carby cleaner (shellite or similar) but I'd rather have some solid answers before attempting any of this. Thanks a bunch

hello everyone

I figured that this be the best place to ask, I have a 89 420 SEL that has a blown engine (chain tension pulley broke 0 compression in any cylinder)

My question is it worth it to try and save and sell it or just part it out so others can live?

I checked and everything works perfectly except the major issue of the blown engine.

I have attached a ton of pics so tell me what you would do.

This isnt a daily driver just another car for me.

Now For the pics
