Inside door handle vinyl repair

Car: MB W210 200k 2002 model
Problem: The passenger door handle had the vinyl cover peeling. See pic below.

Attachment 273048...

Car: MB W210 200k 2002 model
Problem: The passenger door handle had the vinyl cover peeling. See pic below.

Attachment 273048

To fix this i needed to remove the inner door cover. Remove the screws that are holding the cover onto the door frame. There is a hidden screw under the SRS airbag tag. Also remove the screw near the locking mechanism and the plastic cover near the door opener.
Attachment 273054

After removing that i needed to pull the press clips apart by pulling the door cover away from the frame. I don’t pull too hard as the top part of the cover is still attached to the window area. Also there are two wires and a cable that needs to be loosened.
The press plug looks as follows. There are a few running around the perimeter of the door cover. The pic shows the inside of the door cover and one of the plugs. (Dont remove the cover yet, there are still other clips and some cables that need to be attended to. This pic is just to show the plastic press plugs)
Attachment 273050

These white plugs sometimes break away from the door cover as they are only glued onto the cover. I needed to glue one as it did break off the cover while i was trying to seperate it from the frame. I used epoxy glue to fasten it back to the door cover.
I now needed to unclip the top part of the door from the frame. There are steel clips along the path of the top cover.
Attachment 273053

There are two cables that need to be disconnected, the audio cable for the woofer and the courtesy light for the bottom of the door. Also disconnect the cable for the door un-locker.

Under the cover it looks as follows: The purple arrows show the position of the clips while the yellow arrows show the four screws that were removed
Attachment 273052

Unscrew the handle from the door cover. There are three screws.
Attachment 273040

Remove the plastic inner:
Attachment 273041
Attachment 273055

Glue your vinyl back to the handle and reinstall all.
Finished product:

Help w/ original pin striping - '87 560SL

Over the years it looks like my 560SL has been repainted in places. The two remaining areas that appear original are the rear fenders – the pin striping is faded. Actually, the blue pin striping is faded – it appears to be paint. I also polished some of it clean off the fender with a careless application of Meguiar’s 105. The red pin striping appears to be vinyl – it’s peeling at the ends. The attached photo is a close up of the right rear – I included some of the door so you can see what it should look like.

I would like to renew the pin striping on the two rear fenders to match the rest of the car. The MB dealer says they don’t have anything to do this. I had thought the striping was original on the car, since it had been maintained this way for so long. I was thinking about an aftermarket kit, but I don’t know where to look and I’m also concerned about color matching. Any leads on this are appreciated.

I had some rust work done in 2007, so I plan to contact the body shop that did it to see what they think. I would prefer a DIY solution, though. At a recent car show for our MB club, several people thought that I should remove ALL the pin striping. I still think it was original. Anyone out there know if side pin striping came on 560SL's back then???

Any feedback is appreciated!!!

is a process that takes top 30 min , and difficulty is 2 out of 10 , u may have to lower your back for a minute.
it may be better products out there but this method always works for me. just be aware that some chemicals out there may stain , so don`t try new things on your own car.
what you need is a metal polish paste , a metal sealant/wax , 1 microfiber towel and 1 terry towel. i have dedicated towels for wheels and exhaust.
after u wash the exhaust tips and dry them put a dime size of metal polish paste on terry towel and spread it ( 3 inx3in is ok) , rub gently the exhaust tips until the grime is remove , same on interior of the exhaust. wipe clean and apply metal sealant with a microfiber towel. now you should have protection for good months and next time when u clean them should be easier.

Products i use :
Hi,

I have a 2006 E350 sedan (Minnesota.) My 2 yr old daughter just scratched the finish on the simulated wood center console cover (the sliding cover over the cup holders.)

The scratches are only in the finish (i.e., the plastic laminate covering.)

Searching the internet I found the following products in a cadillac forum - the interior in CTS' is simulated wood, but with a black lacquer finish. Althought it should work the same for my MB (honey/walnut finish), but just checking if anyone has any advice.

NOVUS scratch removers
PlastiX by Maguairs
Blue magic Plastic & Plexiglass cleaner and scratch remover

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys new to the site but not to forums. I just got my 06 C230 this past Thursday and I love it! Anyway I was at the International Car Show this past weekend in Tampa and there was a booth for Ibiz Wax and Car Wash. After watching his presentation I bought his wax, waterless carwash, and Tire Shine. I am very picky on my products that I use and I waxed it yesterday and it is the best wax I have ever used. Has anyone else come across this stuff? A cool feature of it is that when you apply it, you can pour water over the car and the waxed spot and it all goes off, and leaves no wet trail. Just thought I'd see if there is any other experience or thoughts on this company! See you all around!!!

I had a pea sized black spot near the ash tray. It was hard like melted plastic/vinyl/nylon etc. I'm thinking a cigarette got too close or hit it.

I found a place in the back of my wagon where the removable panel for the spare tire overlaps the permanent panel. Using a pair of scissors and a piece of paper to catch the cut fibers, I gave the area (normally hidden) a 'haircut'. It really doesn't take too much and you can't tell at all. Next wearing some latex gloves I sprayed some 3M Super 77 adhesive into a small plastic cup. With a Q-tip I dabbed some of the adhesive onto the damaged area. Just a film not a big gob! Then I took the fibers I cut and pressed them into the area. Spot has almost disappeared. There is a slight discoloration from just the right angle if you know where to look but the casual observer would not notice.

Note: I use 3M Super 77 for other things so I had some. Other spray adhesives may work just as well.
