Does anybody know if the passenger airbag on a W638 V220 (T plate 1999) can be turned off so that i can fit a rear facing child seat in the front of the car.

There is a small light on the centre console that says SRS which comes on with ignition and goes off when the van starts, which makes me wonder if immobilising it is possible. Surely if it was on all the time with no option to switch it off then a light on the console would be pointless????

Cheers All,

Hi All,

I did something really stoopid, i somehow managed to snap my key blade inside the ignition barrel of the car.

Luckily the barrel still turns when i put the remaining stump of the key in, so i can still use the car for now, but it's not ideal.

Does anybody know who sells key blades other than the stealerships, they want £40ish + VAT for a new blade only.

At least i know that the fob/immob is all still OK since the van still starts, ideally i'd like to get a replacement blade rather than an old key without transponder/alarm remote and have everything back to normal. I see somebody on evil bay sells blades, but only for what looks like a W639 and not the W638 that i have.

Cheers all,

Hi All,

It is with great regret I am leaving the forum. Last month my vito burst into flame caused by an electrical fault in the Merc Radio. Apparently not uncommon the assesor was on his way to look at a new E class with the same problem.

Anyway the van is a total loss. I don't really need a van any more so have ordered a Skoda Octavia to replace.

If anyone is interested I have a brand new set of metallic silver mirror backs for a W639 and also a set of 4 Mercedes Alloys 17" with a half worn set of Avon ice and snow touring tyres for sale.

Hi everyone hope someone can help me
A couple of weeks ago i went to start my 2002 Vito 108CDi and i turned the key and all i got is one click from the solenoid and it would not turn over so i left it for a few hours and it started,
Anyway i went out sunday morning to get a paper and come out of the shop and the same thing happened again so this time i rang for the breakdown company
When they turned up he hooked a booster pack up to the battery and it started straight away he then noticed that the glow plug light was on( been on for a few weeks now) so he put a multi meter on and it was reading 19.4v and when all the electrics were on it went down to 16.3v
He said that i need to change the alternator
Would it be the voltage regulator that is at fault? If so can this be changed without spending out for a new alternator as money very tight with christmas and new baby due in a few weeks

Thanks

Hi All,

I thought i'd start a new topic on this because i now think i may have a different problem.

I had a bad vibration somewhere between 30 and 50mph depending on RPM and how much of a load, hill climbing and a whole load of other factors.

I knew i had one knackered CV joint, and thought this may be the problem. I decided to replace the 2 complete driveshafts for peace of mind. Ordered them up and they arrived today so i started fitting them, unfortunately after fitting the first and stripping the second side, i found that the evil bay guy has sent one wrong shaft. With a one week old baby, i really hope we don't need to go anywhere as a family, coz my other car is a Mk1 fiesta, we just won't fit :p

Anyway, when i stripped the second (passenger) side, i noticed that the output shaft (the cup that the D/S bolts on to at the gearbox) has a bit of play on it. Is this normal??? I can't say i noticed it on the O/S shaft when i did that side, and i really don't want to strip that side again to find out.

I also noticed that, the N/S shaft had an inner joint shot too, and there was a lot of play in that.

Main questions are...
play in output shaft... normal or not?? If not... big job to repair????

Cheers all,

Gordon

Hi - has anyone every adjusted or knows how to adjust the gearbox cables on a 2001 MB Vito 112 ?

I have the feeling that the cables have been stretched over time and need adjusting as sometimes the "upwards" gears from the lever (1st, 3rd and 5th) do not always engage correctly.

I would like to know if this is a possible cause? and if so, is it easy / possible to adjust the cables on this car - and if so if any advice can be offered ???

Kind regards,
