hi friends,

my brake lights not working and ABS and LIGHT is ON. so can it be the coincidence OR when brake light not working (i think is brake switch bad) the ABS is going off? or why together this two indicators go on?

so i decided to check out the brake light switch but frankly, this switch is not easy to touch. is it necessary to dismantle whole "lower plastic cover" under the steering wheel? I have found about 4 screws but it don't wanna go out is anybody of you try to dismantle this?

should i disconnect a battery for airbag don't blow?

is there any thread with photos of dismantling it, i don't wanna damage some cable, there is a lot of it :(

thank you for your help! :)

edit: ok, i found manual to dissassemble WHOLE dash board, is there any way how to only lower side or to change brake switch is it necessary?

For a 2003 230, does the stock main pulley/vibration damper have a rubber layer inside? From what I have read elsewhere, it looks like pulleys can deteriorate over time which may be the source of my minor vibration problem (have isolated virtually all other sources - removed all belts, no change). Looks like many have replaced the stock pulley with a larger one so not sure how many on this forum have experience with a 7 year old stock pulley. Any help is appreciated.

I have an engine management light.
The mechanic at the dealer tested it and said 2 faults were showing. 1) air mass flow 2) camshaft sensor
He thought it would be air mass so he replaced it today.

It still is showing camshaft fault, he suggested he needed it for 2 days as he thinks the timing advance is too tight on it, so he thinks he needsto strip it then adjusts it rebuild and test and keep doing this until fault is cured. Does anyone please know if this makes any sense???

So after reading all great info here, I decided to try to fix my car myself. I have a 1999 SLK230. The check engine llight came on yesterday and the engine is sputtering at stops. Sounds like its the MAF sensor.

So this morning I proped up the hood and started taking things apart, I though I would recognize it from the photos but I just can't find the sensor. P

Instead of continuing to mangle my manicure and wear myself out, I thought I'd ask exactly where the MAF sensor is located. I'm sure I can clean it and save some money but I need to know where it is. Does anyone have any photos or simple directions to locate it?

Thanks a ton!
