Hi guys,

I'm thinking of purchasing a 1974 Mercedes/Hanomag 206d. It is a high-top camper, but I want to gut it out and use it as a cargo van, an OG Sprinter I suppose. My only concern is the engine. It has a om615 diesel which is not currently running. The question is: Can I swap out for a om616 and still bolt to the 4spd manual? I think I saw an older w115 that went from the 220 to the 240. The 240 engine is more plentiful here, plus the added 15hp wouldn't be bad either. Thanks in advance!

I know this might be premature, I don't even have the car yet and talking about engine swaps, but I was just curious: I did a search, btw, so here it goes: My car (111.012) has the stock M189.940 (stock 220S). Does the motor from a '61-'65 (112.014) M189.984 (stock 300SE) will bolt on as a direct replacement with the exception of the fuel system? I am interested in a direct replacement mainly for reliability, if this sounds absurd please do not yell... again this is just for information purposes, but chances are if it is a "bolt" on replacement (like the 2.7 to 3.0 was for the 911) I will do it, unless there are other better options for drop in swaps for my case (daily driver, not a racer)
Thanks in advance,

my Father in law had a 73 450 sel in garage for about 20 years. His wife had parked the car because my wife and her brother didnt know how to drive at 16 and scrapped the side. So they parked it in the garage. The car was operational before putting the car into storage. After 3 years of begging he has finally given it to me SWEET. Put gas in the carb to see if it would fire up after filling the oil and radiator fluid and new battery. Surprisingly it did. From what I have been reading to bring this girl back from the dead I need to clean the gas tank out. I have a place that will clean it but I need some pics or info on how to remove it. I have already replaced the fuel pump and the filter that I obtained through bap. Any help or advise would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Hi everyone,
First post, just would like to share with you guys, I ended up getting a 62 220S today, will be picking it up tomorrow and should have an update by tomorrow night. Was looking to get into a little winter project. Looked at a 64 today, but hadn't been started or driven in 10 years. Car was all there but just didn't "feel" right to me. Interior was really rough, dash cracked, seats were ripped, door stop on driver's side had separated from the inner door and sheet metal was damaged, headliner sagging, wood trim broken, (it was a 4 speed on the column which I liked) left rear door and fender had been replaced, heavy bondo on the lower panel under the rear bumper, (it had black plates which really made it harder for me...) engine was all there, had A/C, cracked battery, oil dipstick was registering oil, but not much, oil leaks underneath both engine and rear differential, all outside rubber hard as concrete, original paint, cracked suspension bushings, brake pedal with no pressure. Since this was going to be my second Benz (had an 83 300SD back in 02) I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make her a daily driver and staying with in my budget. I thought really hard about it, I finished my 911 last winter and went over budget, so this time I just wanted something that all the hard work had been done. I really liked this one, I don't even know if I ended up paying too much, (that was by the way how much I wanted to spend) but it is what it is, I can take over from here and make sure it will be a daily driver for years to come.
Here she is! Item 260505484250

Hello, I recently pulled the original diesel engine to put it in a kid sized offroad buggy project. (SBC 350 to go into the 190D body) The little diesel ran good prior to pulling it last week. Today after re-plumbing everything up and replacing all old crusty fuel lines, I attempted to prime the system. I pumped that dang pump at least 200 times. I could only see a small amount of fuel rise up into the clear filter. Once I stopped the fuel would drop right back into the tank. Also, should there be any resistance in pumping because there was NONE. Super easy the whole time. Yes I opened the valve on top of the filter.

Another question I have is would a new inline 12V fuel pump (self priming)work in the system instead of the old style hand pump, and if so, would I need to remove the original pump?

Thanks for any help

On the USA spec the later w114's, the control knob ( dial ) for the interior ventilation blower had a wide "foot" which showed 4 speed settings. The European models had a simple knob with a green arrow and there were only 3 speed settings.
Question : Were the knobs on the USA models backlit ? Can a european w114 be retrofitted with a USA setup ? If so, what would be required ? ( Parts, wiring etc ) . Where can I get such parts ? What are the MB partnumbers ?
Any info would be greatly appreciated !
