Whenever I try to open the sunroof without the car running, it struggles for an inch and stops. When i try to open it while driving the car, it opens up but noticable slower than it used to. Other than that, i don't see any other signs for low battery, windows work fine, lights and everything else is fine. Is it time for a battery change?

Hello all. Brought my '04 CL500 into MB for servicing this past Friday. Got a call today from service rep. with some dreadful news. Four separate issues. I'm going to list them and would absolutely love and appreciate hearing from those with knowledgeable opinions and/or those with similar experiences. Here they are and THANK YOU!

1) Valve cover gasket is sweating oil. $529 w/ parts and labor. (I believe my extended warranty is going to cover this but won't be sure until tomorrow)
2) Serpentine belt is "glazed" and needs to be replaced. $210 w/ parts&labor. I'm not 100% positive but isn't a serpentine belt DYI? My neighbor could help me with it if that's the case.
3) E-Brake isn't clicking into place and needs a new assembly kit. $205 w/ parts and labor. (Is it that important that I get this fixed?)

Lastly and the biggest problem:
4) The Airmatic Valve loses air pressure and does not maintain the correct amount. $1,250 w/ parts&labor. MB rep. says that once this valve goes, the entire car's suspension will be shot in the ass and the entire care will be dropped like a Cali lowrider. He couldn't give me the amount of time I have until it goes but said it's on its way.

What I want to know is if I can get any of these things done by a friend/neighbor, how important it is to get each one done and where can I buy the particular parts needed?

Again, I'd appreciate ANY and ALL HELP from you guys! Thank you!

Anyone know where to find a write-up on how to remove the dashboard? I know it's a major job. Do you have to get the seats & center console out?

Also, how do you get the center dash vent out? I see the two clips on the bottom on the sides, but I'm afraid to yank too hard for fear of destroying it. Is there anything other than those two clips holding the center dash vent in? Do you pull up or out towards you?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm going to be replacing the rear pads on my '04 CL500. I see the previous owner got clobbered by the local MB dealer to the tune of $600+ for the fronts. This being said, I've talked to my independent mechanic- he wants to sell me Wagner ceramic pads for $75. I can get the Akebono pads online for about the same price. I've heard these can be noisy too. What's the best pad to buy to minimize brake dust and noise? Any advice appreciated.

So after a few months of indecision i'm 90% sure that the 2006 CL55 is the one for me. I plan to keep it for 4 years. I'm looking for the lowest mileage (30-40k) and certified if possible or at least one with an extended warranty. i plan to spend up to 45K. so if anyone knows of a silver or black, one owner, less than 40k miles, please let me know.

is there anything i need to know in my pre purchase inspections? i want one fully loaded so what were some options available in 2006?

i've read up on the ABC issues, at what mileage does this usually rear its head? 30k, 40k or beyond?

any experienced advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the market now but willing to wait until after the snow begins to melt (march 2010). my current E420 is very dependable and still a real joy to drive. but i'm gettng the itch.

So I made the plunge last evening on a cl500 2001 MY. Yes I have an extended warranty on it, though I paid over 4000 dollars for it. That said, no ABC issues for the test drives over the last week, but wouldn't you know it I parked on an incline this morning and I received the dreaded "ABC Drive Carefully" message. My initial thoughts are low fluid and simply to top it off. It seems to be the least expensive option at this point. The car does not appear to be sagging on either side.

I was going to look under the hood today to see where this fluid goes, but could also simply drve across the street to HBL here in tysons.

Any other suggestions?

Hello,

I've recently started having a problem with my 03 W215 when it's cold outside. When standing right next to the car the smart key will not unlock or lock the car. I have used both keys with the same result. I called MB roadside service and they came out and tested the battery and it is fine. After a while the car will start and work fine the rest of the day.

I've read some older posting regarding another model that when they replaced the EIS unit the problem was resolved. Has anyone on this forum experienced this issue and what was the resolution.

Thanks for your help.

Hi guys, I would like some information on a 2001 CL 600 audio system - I have just bought the car and there's some issues.

The car has a BOSE amplifier with a socket for D2B fiber optics, and an MC3198 CD changer also with a socket for D2B optics. The car only has 1 pair of orange fibers terminated in 1 rectangular plug.

Does the BOSE system need to be in the fiber loop as I can't get any sound at all, and if I unplug the changer fibres the display on the radio says "no CD changer"

Also, the small 3 wire plug has 2 wires broken off - the colours are brown, black/blue and red/yellow.

Does anyone know what each does, and which locations in the plug they should be in?

Many thanks,

Ian Henderson.
