The problem is that when I push a little bit and run above 4000 rpm the engine (which is very smooth until then) starts running very roughly.
The problem happens both with Fuel and LPG.
Replaced: Air and oil filters, HT cables, Spark plugs and Debimeter with no success.

Hi Gang,

My 2001 S320 used to always run at dead on 80, whatever the weather or driving conditions! Now it will be at 80 on a long steady trip, but go to about 90 - 93 around town.

What could cause this, should I be panicing?

The oil is kept new, and it is not burning any fluids at all. Everything is working find apart from this small increase in temperature.

The only thing is that my aircon needs recharging - I take it that this could not make any affect?

Thanks all

I appreciate any help on a starting problem of a 2002 S430.

For about a month, as the key is turned to starting position, there would be no immediate cranking (no sound at all). If hold the key for 30 second, or longer, it usually starts fine. Once started, it runs fine, and would usually start fine if engine is turned off, and immediately started again. But since yesterday, I have not been able to start it no matter how long I hold the key. Portable jump battery is also used.... So it is not the battery issue, I believe.

Here are my observations or symptoms I saw:

1) Bought a new key to rule out the key issue, but problem persists.

2) When the key is turned to ON, (but before the final turn to start the engine), if the small RED indicator light on the "airmatic button" (and another "sport suspension" button) is/are on, the engine will start fine. Looks as if the power is not connected to the starter. Since yesterday, the red indicator light fleshed a few times in my numerous trials, but never stay lid. Could this be any relay/fuse failure? If so, what would these be, and where they are? Thanks.

3) During the delay starting time for the last month, the front radiator cooling fan would be running, till the moment before the engine starts. Is this normal? Someone claimed it is normal. I'm a bit concerned since the car is completely cold, why would the cooling fan be on?

4) "Check Engine" light never showed up. Not that the light went dead, because I can see it lid up every time during the "waiting time", and turns off after the engine starts.

5) Wanted check for power connectivity to the starter terminal, but could not seem to locate the ME-SFI control module. Could someone point it out to me where it is on 2002 S430 (US)?

Many thanks on your help, input and thought,

Hello All,
Update to my post below. Info and Help needed PLEASE.
It is amazing as to how much more we at benzworld know about our cars, parts and part numbers then the MBZ dealer.
The dealer tells me that the prior owner of my S500 2004 did not use the navigation system for a few years and that although I have a DVD 2004.1 disc, it is outdated and the system has to updated ( navi unit in trunk and command in dash) with an update / service disc and a new map disc. before I can use the navigation system in my Benz.
That will be $785.00 ( parts & labor). I have searched the forum and learned that I can get a service disc and a new map disc from the MBZ parts department and "Do It Yourself" and save on the labor & parts.
Problem is the search results are old 2003-2005 and the service disc part numbers are different now then what I found here. The MBZ parts dept does not know the new part number for the 2009-2010 service disc. Can anyone please shed some light on this. Iam I going about this correctly or do I need to bite it and let the dealer to do the entire update?
Thanks for your replies, and insight with this.
John

Hello All, Please help and thanks in advance for your replies.
Yes, I did a search for my problem, but could not find any relation.
Here is the problem, I purchased an MBZ S500 2004, 51,000 miles, Black / Charcoal, Florida.
I have the COMMAND DISC that came with the car " COMMAND DIGITAL ROAD MAP" North America, USA/Canada 2004.1 When I insert the disc I get a map and screen that shows the menu. After a few minutes, I get a screen that says, " NAVIGATION" WRONG VERSION OF NAVI DVD NAVI IN UNIT. voice command says, NAVIGATION IS NOT ACTIVE.
My Mercedes-Benz service says I need an updated DVD installed $300.00.
Now, I see that at one time the navigation was working because there are old routes programed, why would it not work now with the old version? Any ideas / suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Hi

I just upgraded from 1996 S320 W140 to 2000 S500 V220.

I think there must be something wrong with the suspension on the V220.

The W140 was much smoother and handled rough roads very smoothly.

The V220 is extreemly smooth on a smooth road and handles a lot better than the W140, but if it sees a small bump it vibrates as if there is no damping.

I had the car checked out by a Merc Dealer and they gave it a clean bill of health 116 point check !

I have done a leak test overnight three times on elevated setting and no leaks.

The vibration is less if I select a stiffer suspension setting but it is still there.

If this is the standard of ride in a 220 I am extreemly disapointed.

I did test drive the car but not over the same roads I traveled to work on in the W140, the difference is now very apparent and annoying.

I have tried getting the wheels balanced and although I think there could be an issue with the engine mounts that is not this problem.

I purchased the car from a S/H Car Dealer so I have 3 months or 5000 km to have it fixed under the warranty, if I can prove there is something wrong.

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong and how I might go about proving it.

Disapointed  :confused::mad:

Ok, so here it goes. I own a 2002 S430, living in NJ, my problem. On a nice sunny day recently, I noticed a small rust spot begining to develope on my driver's side lower front door panel. Knowing the rust issues that these cars are prone to, I began to search the forum as well as MB customer service. Apparently back in 06, the lower door seal campaign was completed, as well as a repair to the door. WTF, three years later and rust again. I contacted the MB dealer and was told to bring it in to the service manager for pictures to forward to MBUSA. Any advice on how I should approach this, I think that MB ows me a redo, along with a new paint job. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
