I was driving along today when something very strange happened. It was sunny so I had my windshield wipers and headlights off. Just when I was almost home I drove past a house with a sprinkler out front, and saw my windshield wiper move across the windshield once. I thought "did that just happen?" and ensured that yes, the switch was in fact in the 'off' position. Just then, it wiped again.

After the second time the problem didn't come back.

Is this a known electrical issue, could I have some kind of short, or was it just a freak occurance?

-car is a 1997 C280.

Hi guys, my dad owned a 1996 c200, i'm trying to change the coolant for him this afternoon, so that i bought a 1 liter of "Caltex Extended Life Coolant (Concentrate)" for his car.

Then i find out this coolant meet MB 325.3 spec, i wonder this coolant can use in his car? If i'm not wrong, this car should use MB 325.0 spec coolant right?

So can MB 325.3 spec coolant to be use when it require MB 325.0 spec? 1 litre enough for it? Because i'm lived in malaysia, average daytime temperatures in here is around 27°C (82°F) year round.

PS. this is the link for the coolant product sheet.

1999 C230K runs great if driven very easy, misfires on cylinder 2 if pushed even a little. It appears that the engine shuts off that cylider, if I turn off the engine and restart it is OK again. Swapped the plugs, wires and coils. At around the same time this started a high pitched squeal started in the passenger side dash. From what I have read this is usually a vacuum leak or a vacuum motor. Not sure where to start, are these separate problems or are they related?

For about a year my car has made a metallic vibrating noise every time I turn left. It sounds like two pieces of metal somewhere under the engine vibrating against each other with a deep, bassy sound. A while ago a shop said it was probably the engine mounts so I had those replaced and the sound was still there :(
Anybody else had this problem, or know what piece is vibrating so I can jam some foam in there?

The lamp for the engine coolant turned itself on yesterday when I turned the engine on, but turned itself off after a few seconds drive. I tried to check the coolant level when I parked at home, but there is no level-indicator on the container for the cooler-fluid in the enginebay, but it looked low. How much should it be? Should I just top it off and not worry about this anymore, or could there be a leak somewhere? Every hose that carries the fluid around looked dry.

This lamp was on for a few seconds when I turned on the engine yesterday:

Question-

Both front seats of my 2000 C230 Kompressor do not work. I do not hear any noises, etc... from either. I am guessing it is not a switch problem since both of them are inop?

I checked all fuses, even the ones in the trunk. I read one article about a relay swap in the trunk, but the 2000 may be different. I did not see those two relays in the trunk.

Anyone have ideas? I also cleaned the connections under the seat with electronics cleaner.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I have a problem with my C180.
Parking works fine, Neutral works fine and Reverse work fine...
However when putting the car into drive, It's in 2nd gear and it stays there, it starts like usual, but never change gear which means when you hit about 30-35 mph where it would usually change to 3rd gear, the rpms go up to 40-50 which shouldnt be the case.
I have tried to change to manuel gear, but no matter what gear is selected, the car is still in 2nd gear only when drive. I have also tried both W/S and that makes no difference either....

I'm not sure what's causing this, I had the car serviced about 500 miles ago.

Any of the experts have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance!
Mads

I need to replace my windshield and was curious about your experiences? The search feature only brought up 2 old threads that didn't cover all my questions.

I called Safelite and their price for a new windshield installed was less than my deductible at $192, but it's aftermarket. I was told that these aftermarket windshields if manufactured by Pilkington, are now the OEM brand for Mercedes-Benz US, anyone know if this is factual? Also, I tend to go OEM for everything on my car but if MB switched manufacturers is that for have read the OEM glass gets "sandblasted" more easily than the aftermarket, explained as being inferior "softer" glass from French manufacturer. I don't know how much this all means but I guess my questions would be do I go OEM or aftermarket and should this be done at a dealer simply to be sure they don't screw up the mono-wiper or trim pieces that surround the glass? Thanks!
