Hey Guys,

A local shop has a 500SEC that is in for service every now and then, and while my 500SE was there, I had a good chance to look over the car.

Its a Euro 500SEC, apparently. Supposedly a 1985 as well. It has a bunch of options(Rear headrests, heated seats, climate control etc etc), but if you run the vin: WDB1260441A210607. It lists NO options, who has ever seen that? Its like the information is simply not available.

The car's motor was replaced a few years ago, with a slightly tuned US-560 motor. Whats interesting, is that the original motor, which came out of the car, had Tri-Y Exhaust Manifolds. These were now on the US-560 motor.

Whats more: The car had the two adjustable "knobs" on either side of the engine bay for the timing or whatever. The car also has GenII bumpers. (The front bumper was replaced [with a US, GenI I think] bumper a little while ago.

The original motor is still around, it was sitting next to another M117. One number was 117.968 the other 117.965. Are either of these GenII motors?

Two photos of the car.

Hello -- I started a previous thread (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/1482356-overheating-coolant-leak-too-much-pressure.html)...

Hello -- I started a previous thread about the overheating issue I was having. Mechanic ended up identifying a head gasket leak and I opted to use K&W seal for the time being...

Now I've spotted a major leak from the front right fender / under the rightside door, where I understand the pressure reservoir lives. I'm losing about the same amount of coolant as I was before, and I'm wondering if this hasn't been my problem all along.

The hose running back behind the battery shows signs of cracking... how difficult is it to get to these to replace?

Hello Guys,

I have a friend of mine has W126,V8 complaining about the oil leak that comes out near the idle control valve through the breather hose which is located on the right side of the engine valve cover. What does cause this oil leak? Of course, after sometime, this oil leak comes out through the breather hose to the idle control valve and cold start injector then spreads over the intake manifold inturn makes a bad looking. There is maybe little oil loss from the engine after 2,000 or 3,000km of driving. Your reply is valuable and highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was looking for quite some time now to find a way to install my Garmin 765T GPS in my 300SDL.
In general, I did like 86560sec's solution but since I am used to have the GPS to my right I decided to come up with my own solution putting the mount right above the climate control in the center console.

Here's what I did:

Removed upper center console wood panel and took out all switches and controls

Cut off suction cup from a spare GPS mount

Masked opening for hazard switch (the one in the middle of the panel) with tape on all edges, sides and corners

Covered back of the masked switch opening with a flat board

Firmly pushed 2 component epoxy puddy into the switch opening and attached the cut off "neck" of the suction cup mount

Modeled putty around switch opening and the mount "neck" and let dry over night

Carefully removed the newly modeled mount from wood panel

Sanded mount to the final form and shape

Created opening at the bottom of the mount to allow for power cable pass through

Countersunk screw on the back side of the mount

Put screw in place and secured with J-B Weld

Gave the new mount final touch by sanding everything to a smooth finish

Painted the whole mount with black semi-gloss spray paint

Put all switches and controls back in place BUT moved hazard switch all the way to the right where the rear reading light switch normally sits

Installed mount and standard GPS power cable in wood panel and secured it with a cross bar through the attached screw in the back

Connected 12V accessory power outlet to wiring for ash tray

"Stored" switch for rear reading light and GPS wiring behind panel on top of the climate control unit (there is more than enough room) and ran power cable to new outlet hidden in the pocket between the ashtray and the right center console panel

The GPS now sits perfectly in the middle of the console. There are literally no holes or any non-reversible changes necessary to the car itself.
I never have anybody in the rear seats that might want to use the reading light and if I ever want to change it back to OEM, all I have to do is to remove the mount and put all the switches back in their original locations (the deactivated rear reading light switch is fully connected but is stored behind the console).

Here are some (fairly low resolution and quality - sorry, iPhone) pictures of the different steps:

The previous owner by-passed the valve by brake booster and put it into the shut off on the IP. She is still very slow to shut down, how do I clean the shut off valve? Locks and other vacumn things seem to work fine?

I have a 1991 420 SEL with a 560 engine. When the engine swap was done the mechanic for some reason had a difficult time adjusting the modulator and we thought that there was a problem with the K1 spring because there was some shift flare. The k1 spring was replaced with the k1 upgrade kit. The modulator was eventually set correctly and the car now has a hard 2-3 shift in hot weather and a very hard 3-2 downshift all of the time. Does the k-1 upgrade affect the 3-2 downshift? Should I replace the k-1 spring with a stock one and if so does anyone know the part number. I am having the kickdown solenoid replaced so I figure that while the mechanic is in there it would be great to have it taken care of.

Thanks, David
