Well I have a 1984 300td with self leveling suspension. The struts are dry the pump seems to work fine. The issue is the massive leak under the passenger side and driver side middle of the car. I am guessing the pressure side and return line are shot. I am going to get under it today but I am just wondering if its a rubber line or steel like a brake line. Either way it has to get fixed. I can find under hood info and rear axle info but nothing on how the fluid gets from place to place.

I went ahead and put a new one on the '83 CD. I knew it would need to be adjusted, but I'm having difficulty. The car is shifting VERY prematurely, and the cable has so much slack that I cannot tighten it enough to make a difference.

When I removed the original cable, it popped out of the transmission VERY easily. It was in there so loose that I was surprised it never came out on its own before. The new one went into the tranny just as easily as the old one came out.

I've never r&r'd this part before, so I wasn't sure if the cable attaches to anything in the tranny, or if the plastic piece just snaps in there. What, if anything, is the cable supposed to hook onto - how do it hook it up at the tranny?

Thanks.

As Previously posted, I am working on rebuilding the front end of my car.

After alot of swearing and sweating, I successfully installed the Passenger side UCA (which is supposed to be the harder of the two).

So Now I just started the drivers side, and I thought everything was fine untill I tried to remove the bushings/Washers from the Torsion bar. Like on the other side they were hard and seized in place, and like on the other side I pried off the outer washer--But this time part of the threaded torsion bar, about 1/2 an inch snapped off and is fused to the washer.

Now the torsion bar is short--plus I dont know how good the remaining piece is.

Now I really need some advice guys--this is my only car and I need to get this resolved what should I do ?

Chasing oil leaks, and one place I'm suspicious of is the bottom end of the tube from the air cleaner to the oil pan. I spent (embarrassingly) over an hour trying to get the tube to wiggle up off the nipple on the bottom, but to no avail. I can't see, but identified by feel, a 'sandwich' clamp, bolted between (I think) the motor mount on the bottom, and the exhaust manifold on the top - then it has a smaller bolt clamping the 2 sides together, and around the tube, in the middle (I'm sure that didn't make any sense, but if you've attempted this, you know what I mean).

I managed to get the smaller bolt in the middle broke loose, but once it started turning, I'd need a 10mm something on the back side - damn, it's hard to reach, being under the turbo and all.

Then I managed to break loose the larger (17mm socket) bolt at the exhaust manifold, and same scenario - once it cracked loose, it just started turning, and it feels like the head of the bolt (engine side of manifold ear) sits in a recess, and there would be no way to get a box end or anything on it...

Can you tell I got frustrated? So now I have 2 bolt/nut combos loose, rattling around, but have accomplished little else, and still don't have the tube floating enough to replace that pesky o-ring...

So, anybody else done this successfully, and give me a clue?

What kind of hose / line do I need to replace this which cracked when I was cleaning the banjo bolt.

Hose / line is for connection from intake manifold banjo bolt to "switchover valve, boost pressure aneroid". Intake manifold is hot so don't know what type of line is needed.

In manuals(Haynes) it is referred to as "delivery line from intake manifold". The line runs from a banjo bolt on the the intake manifold to the switchover valve which has another line that runs to the aneroid compensator on the fuel injection pump.

I have various telling me: a) use fuel line; b) use std opaque vacuum line; c) use clear vacuum line with covering... Looking at the old line, can't read the part number. Any thoughts appreciated.

Allright, so here's whats happened. The other day I came out of my night school cource and hopped into my '79 300D, glowed the plugs turned the key and nothing happened. Tried several times with the same result everything seemed to work but the starter. No click nothing, just silence. Tried it again a few more times and then it started working. Now two days later, same time of night, coming out of class, turned the key and again nothing. Tried the key about ten times and then it started working.
It seems to work fine during the day so I'm wondering if the solenoid or some other realy could have some sort of grease in it that's becoming too viscous to allow contacts to move. I don't think it's the ignition switch since everything else seems to work. What are the thoughts? also where is the solenoid in it and is there someway to cross it over like you can in old ford trucks? This is extremely annoying since it only seems to happen at night when I can't see anything to try and work on it....
