This European Life - An Open Travelogue

Hello everyone,
My name is Miguel and I would like to formally intoduce "This European Life", my open travelogue, to the Benzworld community. In it, I narrate my travels around the world and the many meetups I am having with the generous, genuinely amazing members of the Mercedes community (both Benzworld, and that other, rather peachy forum). I would like to post my updates here, and would like to ask you to pitch in with any kind of suggestion –even better if its a suggestion for a meetup wherever I go.

If you have Facebook, you can also receive updates that way (link)

Newport, taking a rest in Highway One.

Driving through Monument Valley, in the UT/AZ border.

Offroading kind of unsuccessfully somewhere in Texas.

Most excellent meetup in Santa Monica, CA. You know who you are!

The travelogue has been going on for a while, so I will start with the most current post, in which I travel to Holland to meet three W123 enthusiasts. My personal car is a W123 300TD called Newport, and, unless otherwise specified within the limits of rational thinking, will be the vehicle for my USA travels. Whether I take it internationally (dreaming of the Panamericana), we will see

All I will say is that I know that Benzworld has more of an international fanbase, and that I am not afraid of traveling abroad!

Whoa, so you're not working at MB Workshop anymore? When did you leave CA?

Enjoy the travels, I'm terribly jealous.

What ended up happening was that the Workshop MB was in financial trouble, so they could not hire me. The rent was too damn high. I spent a month browsing for a similar job, and, one month later, was hired as an apprentice at Burlingame Motors, a shop specializing in vintage Mercedes restorations.

Almost six months later, I was offered to fulfill my dream of hosting an online TV show with user TylerH860, so he flew over and we agreed on it. So, in this big leap of faith, will be moving to the Midwest to do it. I also put together the idea for a design collective in Manhattan, and been offered an office space free of charge (refer to this post).

In short, I will be on horseback between Wichita, KS and NYC. Life will be beyond exciting, and, as cool as it is to restore 300SL's, I think travel is too essential of a requirement for my personal growth.

Due to the amount of search terms related to "SLR Transporter" that I see in my blog's analytics, it's time to review one of the rarest car I ever laid my hands on... DAS BLAU WONDER!

This European Life: Mercedes SLR Transporter

In other news, I am departing for the US on Monday!

Finally, an update! Yes, I have a girlfriend now, so she has taken her very well-deserved share of time. I have, however, been writing these little vignettes for days, so bear with me! I have not forgotten about you!

Miguel,
I've read your travelogue thread in the other forum. It became my window to the world outside of my office. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

I'm eagerly awaiting the result of your project with TylerH860.

Good luck and more power to you!
Ed

Thank you! I moved in two weeks ago with Tyler and we have been gathering equipment and talking about the project. Yesterday we shot some test footage and we will soon be filming the first episode of the web series.

I really cannot describe how excited and how intimidated I feel about this...

Here's the narrated form of some recent events, since I have not written in centuries:

Another update, narrating how I drove a $59 for two months, and how I got Orwell, the Mercedes 300TD I plan –one day– to drive from Alaska to Argentina. Oh, what future posts will hold!

This post may be one of the most important ones I have written, if not the most important. My time in the US is almost up, so I have about six weeks to make a decision whether to stay and study some more, or exit this country though the Big Door down to Argentina.

Crossroads: PanAmerican or School?

Always excited to meet other MB enthusiasts anywhere in the world!
