East Bay, CA: MBs and Theatre?

So we all know there is a broad mix of people on this site and while we all have a love of MBs in common, we all have lots of other interests. That those interests also diverge is well-known to anyone who has ventured into OT. Nonetheless, that suggests there might be a few members who also appreciate live theatre and, in this instance, musicals.

With that in mind, who in the Bay Area is interested in combining a mini-meet or a few of them with a play in the Bay Area, California? Specifically, I have an ensemble role in a production of “Godspell” being staged by a nonprofit group in June. It would be cool if some members can come and then hang around after to meet. Besides, there are a couple of matinee shows on a Saturday and Sunday if evenings aren’t good. Hey, it’s easier to see cars in the daytime!

If you’re not familiar with the play (either never heard of it or know it only from the – ahem – lesser movie) it’s Stephen Schwartz’s first big Broadway success, nearly forty years before he brought “WICKED” to the stage. It’s mostly based on New Testament parables with some terrific songs and (in this case) outstanding choreography. There are some amazingly-talented people in this production, although I wouldn’t describe myself with those terms. (It's not a stuffy preachy kind of thing at all.) If you've ever heard the song "Day By Day", which climbed to #13 on the Billboard chart, it is the best-known song from the play and there are lots of versions of it on youtube, one is below (the one from the cast album). And if you are familiar with the play, be aware that no, you won't get to see me with face paint...

Lesher (Walnut Creek) manages the Del Valle Theatre (near Rossmoor) where all performances will occur (and plenty of free parking). Opening night is June 11 and the last show is June 26th. If you’re interested, tickets are available through the Lesher Box Office, (925) 943-SHOW (7469) or on their website at: Lesher Center for the Arts | Godspell

Now, I know you are all into group buys (LOL), and this is no exception: if there are enough of you interested in attending the same show I can get a group deal for you, which also means you don’t incur the additional processing fees. Post up if you are and, of course, which show.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
