LA-San Diego-Arkansas Run

Many thanks to the board.

VERY-VERY happy with a 1-owmner 1999 E55 I bought last week in LA, and did a smooth run back home to Arkansas over the weekend.

My local indie fixed me up with a care package, and replaced the air filter, fresh oil, and new CPS sensor to make the run home.. all to the good.

With fresh Pilot's courtesy of the owner, the run home was a great drive.

I am very happy to add this one to my stable, my girfriend has started to look at engagement rings again, but I can handle that one downside.

Keep the beat !

E55's are a bargain at this moment..

On the "mileage" I had no desire to keep track of that - with fresh rubber, fresh filters, a big bottle of Lucas gas additive, a Passport radar detector and a 2nd pair of eyes - in a tight 1-owner E55 I was more interested in enjoying the open road driving experience.

When you driving approximate 4 hr segements averaging over 85 mph. and a couple of faster segements - I didn't care to track fuel economy at those average speeds.

On "deals" 1999-2001 E55's for owner's or dealers earnestly looking to sell their cars -realistic prices on good-to-excellent are now in the $10K-$14K range - which to me are close to stealer prices.. shit, handbuilt at those prices ? It's the difference between owner's that "wanna sell" versus owner/dealers "committed to sell"..

Has nothing to do with the quality/value of the car - it all has to do with the economy.

For the buyer - it all has to do with searching out the right car for you.

1st why was this thread moved to events? Its not an event.

I meant what was the mileage and price of the CAR. I track E55 sales. Im curious to see what you were "willing to pay" I have seen them go for 8k.

Your question, and the answer..

Since you are "tracking", and actually since you like 380SEC (a very under rated driving car, even under appreciated by most MB "enthusiasts).

Anytime anyone on a board like this states their purchase price - they always get flack from wanna-buyer's who say "you could have done better".

The E55 I bought had 64K on the clock, 1-owner, checked national and local dealer records; excellent condition exterior with no blemish other than road use, and like new interior. Fresh Pilot's with less than 3K on them, and 1 yr old MB battery replaced by roadside. Brakes pads done 5K ago.

Original asking was $15K, after 5 weeks patience my cost was $10,400 which was slightly under trade-in value on Edmonds.

The engine needed to be cleaned, filters changed, and fresh oil. I will change the coolant and more importantly the tranny fluid next week.

The other downside's on this specific car was iffy driver's mirror (electro-chromatic, they fail) $263 replacement, and (2) replacement wheel keys direct from NY manuf for $44 plus $6 shipping since the records included the original wheel lock registration code.

To be frank, from my persepctive with the W210 E55 mileage is not as important as brakes/rubber and general condition as a result of the area it was driven and the owner's maintainence - but that is my opinion.

Prices are still dropping down a hair, so it's up to your search and the specific car.

Hope that helps !.
