| Essenza tires, manufacturing defect? Greetings all,
I have a 500SL with 18" AMG Monoblocks fitted with Essenza tires. The tires came with the car and, within the space of about a year and 5000 miles' worth of use, I've seen one rear blowout (at speed on the freeway) and two front flats.
All of the failures appear to have originated at the sidewall.
In my research, it appears Goodyear made but did not distribute these tires. In the first two instances, I went to the Goodyear dealer, who informed me that they do not sell this brand of tire. Since the tires were also mangled and sustained substantial damage in other areas due to driving on them while flat, they also pointed out that it would be impossible to prove a manufacturing defect.
Yesterday I was able to--audibly--detect a rapid leak in one of the tires while moving the car from the driveway into the garage--and hence before further damage could occur. Upon removing the tire, I noticed about a 2" long crack along the circumference of the sidewall, near its junction with and parallel to the tread. There is no uneven wear and in my estimation, there is still at least 80% of the tread remaining
Can anyone direct me to a dealer in the Los Angeles (San Gabriel Valley/Inland Empire/North Orange County) area who is a contracted distributor for this brand and can inspect the tire for me?
Thank you. |
