Staggered Rims, same size tires

I've purchased four AMG rims to put on my 98 CL600. The fronts are 8.5x18 and the rears 9x18 (both ET44). I was thinking about putting 255/45/18 on all four wheels. Is it ok to do this? Is it necessary to have a wider tread on the rear in this situation? The difficulty I would have is that to match the fronts in diameter I would need to go to 285/40/18 which is too wide for the 9 inch rims. The other alternative is to go to 245/45/18 and 275/40/18 but these tires are a half inch smaller than the oem size of 235/60/16.
Thanks
-Dave

Go to the Tire Rack site and ask Luke! From what I can tell, no one at DT knows anything about our cars.
