Hey guys I've been searching and reading the various forums on our very informative website over the past few weeks, and still haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I think I'm in the right forum for my question so here goes.
I purchased a set of 19inch wheels for my 96 SL 320, that came off another benz, the seller wasn't sure what kind of Benz? The wheels fit on the rear fine but the front wheel spokes sit on the caliper when I tighten the lug bolts. I understand I need spacers, but how do I measure for what size spacers I need?
My stock wheels are J 8 X 16h2 ( ET 34 )------225 /55 /16.
The new wheels I'm trying to put on are sized J 19 x 8.5 ( ET 37 ) 255 /40/ 19.
Any input or help would be appreciated.

Ok guys I'm learning alot about offsets and spacers. So with your tips and advice I used the offset calculator and figured out that I need to use a 3mm spacer to make my wheels fit.
Does anyone know if they sell a hubcentric 3mm wheel spacer? Also once I put on the spacers will I need a longer lug bolt? Thanks again.
It is going to depend on the new wheels. I would measure the depth of the bolt holes in the old wheels (from the seat to the back of the wheel) and then measure the depth of the bolt holes in the new wheels. Add 3mm to the depth of the holes in the new wheels and compare that figure to the depth of the holes in the old wheels.
I would want the bolts to go about the same distance into the rotors as the old ones did. Be careful not to go too much deeper or you will conflict with the parking brake mechanism inside the rear rotors. Unless you happen to hit the parking brake mechanism as you install the bolts, you won't know there is a problem until you try to move the car. At that point, you can do some damage.
Make sure you use bolts with the correct seat type for the new wheels. Some have cone seats, others have ball seats. All lengths and seat types are available on the Internet.
