Spring installation ?

1998 C230 non-Kompressor
I just installed my rear Vogtland springs & eventually take my car to
my mechanic to do the fronts (too hard for me with just a floor jack).
My question is, the flat part of the spring goes on the top or bottom ?
Does it matter ? I put the flat part on the bottom because, the top fit
snug into the pad. Anybody have any ideas? Do I have to do the rears again &
reverse the springs? (The name & serial # is on the coil, so I assume
the spring is installed right side up, so you can still read the the name & #'s?????)
Any help would be appreciated.....Thanks in advance.........
