I get a rough ride on certain stretches of road. Only the smoothest of road conditions up to 60 MPH and after 80 MPH are comfortable.
I currently have a 2000 SL500 with the Sport package. This includes Yoko AVS dB S2 245/40ZR18 front and 275/35ZR18 rear, ultra-low profile high-performance tires. I have 8.5Jx18" front and 9.5Jx18" rear, staggered-width 5 spoke AMG monoblock alloy wheels.
I have had the car aligned and all four tires trued and balanced on the car w/ no bent rims @ 33 and 36 psi Nitrogen.
The next step may be to put on new tires w/ higher profile. Has anyone had success with moving from a 275/35 to a 265/40 series?

What were the original size wheels/tires? My OEMs were/are 16" and I run 18x8.5 AMG Double Spoke Bright Sil/18x9 AMG Double Spoke Bright Sil w/ 245/45WR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 XL and 275/40YR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. I know our cars are different, but the ride I get is fantastic. It is actually much better than the OEM all-season tires that came on the S. And the handling is out of this world. You might want to try a different tire.

Yes your car is a S series 4 door with I beleive a completely different suspension. Probably has ADS II.
I wish I could get the 275/40 under my rear but it looks like the overall diameter of your tire is 26.8" and I was told to be careful not to go much over 26" due to suspension travel and tire rub. My current tires/rims are original size, different tire manufacture from OEM. My front diameter is 25.7" and rear is 25.5"
