Whenever tires get put on the 300E, usually between studded and summer tires, the place that changes them puts weights on them. I know the reason is to balance the tire so that it won't vibrate and shimmy at speeds over 45 MPH. The problem is the weights are problematic. They will come off, especially when washing the car, sometimes just from the rough roads. This has become a major annoyance and seeing as I plan to get new tires since the world's worst tires (Michelin Harmony) are bald I am wondering if there is any other way of balancing wheels and tires besides using weights. If so, how much more would it cost and where could it be done?

It doesn't make sense. If they can keep an F=1 wheel balanced, going over kerbs and up to 200 mph, they should be able to make weights stay on your car. Maybe the dealer you frequent is not doing a good enough job, and you need to find someone better qualified.
i made the mistake myself doing my moms wheels, the benz have an odd shaped lip, most wheels liek mercedes have take the MC weights, but they have to be bent over a little more to fit propertly, i woudl let the people who do the tires for you know, or ou can request stick on wights, which look better because the be put on the inside of the wheels.

Any halfway decent wheel & tire place will not use weights. They all use the stick-on "weights." I have never seen these come off because of the strong adhesive used to stick them to the inside of the wheel surface. These are very effective, do not show, and do not come off if put on properly.
So how much should the internal weights cost. My mom was quoted about $500 a wheel, however I do not think they were talking about the same thing, the person who quoted it does not do it but gave that estimate.
