Remove logo from trunk on CLK 500

Hello,

I saw another post on here, they said to use dental floss to get the logo off but I think on my car is different.

I want to remove the Mercedes logo off my trunk. I tried pulling it off gently and it looked like it is fixed to the trunk using a plastic plug stuck into a small hole carved into the trunk.

Please let me know how I could do this safely.

Thank you,
Mitchel

Leave them. There is no reason to remove the badges unless you repainting.

Thank you for your opinion, but I'd like to remove it for my own reasons.

If anyone has advice on how to take it out safely I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Mitchel

If you want to remove it, you'd have to have a body shop fill in the holes and repaint the trunk lid.

I wouldn't recommend prying on it anymore. I've seen several MB's where the ring is broken off of the star, so apparently these emblems are rather flimsy.

You might check one of the auto detailing forums like autopia.org or autogeek.net. Those guys have more experience at de-badging cars. I sure would'nt know where to start.

Careful, if you remove all the badges, someone might mistake the car for a Camry! Just kidding.

Badges are either glued on or screwed in. Glued removal is easy using a hair dryer and dental floss, the screwed in types will leave two or more holes which need to be filled in and repainted, a lot of work and new paint will never match perfectly.

Unless you have a very compelling reason to remove the badge, don't do it (as advised above from other members).

Lol @ Karburn, very funny!

Klaus9000, I don't need to repaint it, I have something to put over it

Any idea on how to carefully remove the screw? I'm wondering if I can get access to it under the "carpet" that's on the inside of the trunk lid..

Yes you need to look behind the badge in the trunk, remove the plastic part to move the carpet out of the way.

The three-star badge on the trunk has plastic tabs inset into the trunk and attached from the trunk compartment, so you must remove the molding/paneling inside the trunk compartment to get to it. As pointed out above, if you decide to remove it, you will have to address the pre-cut holes for the star as they will be noticable.

Most trim badges (except for this one) are attached via some type of adhesive or double-sided tape. These can be easily removed with a heat gun and dental floss or a non-scratch plastic trim wedge, but your star has holes drilled into the trunk to mount it. Also the star itself is very fragile so if you do decide to remove it, use a gentle hand or it will break easily.
