Brake Dust - how should I limit the residue

Any thoughts on how to limit the amount of brake dust on the rims? A friend recommended I wax the rims which should act like a repellent. Input is greatly appreciated.

Using a good quality wheel sealant as opposed to a wax will help keep brake dust from "baking into" the finish, but you will still have to clean the wheels. Make sure the wheels are really clean before using the sealant. I use Poor Boys Wheel Sealant. About once a week I get after the brake dust with some Griot's Garage speed shine and several old microfiber cloths - it takes a lot of wiping, but it's more thorough than just washing them.

Another solution is to change to a brand of brake pad that produces less dust than the OEM pads. I am changing to Wagner pads in the very near future.

Good luck!

The best thing you can do is not to make dust at all or keep it to a bare minimum. On my kid's SLK, we use Akebono ceramic pads which work great and are virtually zero dust. On other cars we have, I've been very happy with the brand they sell at Pep Boys, Pro-Stop ceramic. They last a long time, no noises or vibrations, smooth, virtually no dust and fairly inexpensive. I can't speak for other brands, but once I've had a good ceramic pad, you'll never go back to the dust machines.

Both Michelin and Eagle One market brake dust repellents. The Michelin product is sprayed on via an aerosol can, then wiped off. The Eagle One product is in a spray bottle and is simply misted on a the clean/dry wheel. Both are effective.

Amen! The Akebono Euros are incredible!
There are definitely some bad ceramic pads out there and this has lead to a stigma on ceramics.
