Welcome and I am glad to see enthusiasm on your part to achieve a better a finish. That's how we all started.

I am going to break detailing down to its basic constituents:

Washing

This is one is easy to understand. Unfortunately, not everyone applies paint-safe practices during the wash process and this in turn impairs the finish. A signature sign of poor washing practices is a vehicle that is covered in swirl marks.

This is a helpful guide on how to wash correctly:

Detailing Clay

Detailing clay or "claybar" will remove embedded contaminations, industrial fallout (looks like tiny rust stains), and rail dust. When it has done its job, the paint will feel like glass.

Polishing

There are two types of polishing, machine polishing and hand polishing.

Hand Polishing

This is the way most people start off. It's back-breaking work but it can be done and you can get serious results if you are extremely patient.

This is basically what is possible with hand polishing:

** Test - Swirl Removal By Hand ** - Autopia.org

Keep in mind, that is several passes over a single area. With this method, you may be able to perform a complete correction over 2-3 days.

This is a guide on how to perform hand polishing:

Machine Polishing

This is the most effective and time efficient manner of polishing paint. There are two forms of machine polishing, D/A polishing and rotary polishing.

D/A Polishing

This is common among detailing enthusiasts because of its extra, built-in safety margin. Unlike a rotary polisher, a D/A buffer such as the Porter Cable will oscillate under pressure. This dramatically reduces the possibility of burning the paint or achieving a strike-through (removing the paint through to the primer).

The downside of this method of polishing, is its limited abilities. It is unable to burnish paint to achieve the highest gloss, and it has a much smaller motor. The smaller motor means it has difficulty cutting through hard paint, and repairing deeply marred surfaces.

Nevertheless, I recommend this method of polishing for beginners. Here is a great guide to read up on.

Rotary Polishing

This machine has a much more powerful motor and needs to be treated with a tremendous amount of respect. It is recommended for professional use.

This machine is capable of leveling paint in seconds, and burnishing paint to a high gloss. Its' abilities are without equal. However, it is a much heavier machine and can be difficult to use on side panels. It also does not have the safety measures of the D/A polisher.

Here's a great rotary polishing guide:

Wax

Wax is the basic element of protection for your paint. It will protect against bird bombs, acid rain, industrial pollution, and many other environmental factors. It will NOT protect against scratches, however.

There are two types of waxes, sealants or synthetic wax, and carnauba wax.

Carnauba Wax

This wax comes from a specific tree in Brazil called The Tree of Life. It excretes a coating onto the leaves to protect them from sun damage.

To create the wax you use to protect your car, workers will shave this hard-as-concrete wax off the leaves for further processing. They will be purified and sometimes bleached white for use in wax. During the creation of car wax, they will be combined with solvents and other ingredients, in order to soften it and make it easy to apply and remove.

Examples of a carnauba wax include Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #16 and Mother's California Gold® Carnauba Cleaner Wax.

Sealant

These products are generally synthetic polymers or acrylic coatings. They have increased in popularity and performance significantly over the past 15 years and offer a durable, beautiful finish.

As a direct result of the durability of these products, for the majority of the enthusiasts, a sealant is all that is required. They have excellent protection with minimal drawbacks.

Examples of sealants, include the Klasse Twins and Zaino CS.

You guess it I accidentally used the wrong side Mann its all messed up now! Thank god he is a good friend* Well it has swirls from hell on the front bumper now... What should I do to fix the problem??? I tried waxing it which helped out a little, however you can still tell that it got brillo paded up! Please Help!!

You are going to have to take a long look at all of the equipment you have and ask yourself, is this paint-safe? Brillo pads and brushes are not paint-safe.

Now, swirls cannot be undone with wax. Wax may fill them in and it will look great for a day or two, but they will come back. I promise. To permanently remove them, you must use a polish or compound, in combination with the appropriate pad. It will abrade the surface and remove an ultra-thin layer of paint until the surrounding area is free of defects.

My guess is you will be hand polishing. If you look up, there is a guide written about this very topic. Here is the link:
