1. The primary component of Murphys is Potassium Soap of Vegetable Oil. This accounts for approximately 20-30% of the content. The balance is Sodium EDTA, Propolyene Glycol, miscellanaous surfactants and fragrances and 50-80%water.

2. The pH is approximately 11.0 ± 0.6 which is VERY alkaline.

3. The MSDS specifically states to avoid reactive metals like aluminum, brass, bronze, etc. (this is important for the health of aluminum wheels and various other parts fabricated from brass or aluminum which could be contaminated by splashing)

4. It will remove ALL traces of wax or sealants.

5. If you use this on paint, even after rinsing there will be an oily film left behind that has to be removed by washing with a degreaser like Dawn or Ajax to remove the film prior to waxing or sealing.

6. The product was specifically designed for use on finished WOOD.

I have always been a proponent of using things for their intended applications and this is no exception. Leave the Murphys to the floors and cabinets and get some car wash soap.

After washing with Murphys what would you wax your car with...Pledge?
Polyurethane is more like it...

I thought GLAZE was for the Shine? Yes?
Wax for protection
Polish to even out and provide deepness and clarity
Glaze for show stopping shine.

Or am I cuckoo for cocoa puffs?

When I put a coat of wax on my car, and buff off the excess, How thick of a layer of WAX is left on the car? (I understand that you leave something) But if I put on 20 layers of wax, will My car be TWICE as shinny as if I only put on 10 coats? My understanding (so I have always thought) is that if your FINISH on your car is POLISHED to the MAX, (clear coat is polished FLAWLESS) then 1 coat of wax will give you a PERFECT PROTECTION for your FINISH!!!!! So, I always though that wax was for PROTECTION, And POLISH was for SHINE!!!!!!!!!Thanks!!!

Yes the pH is around 11 which is somewhat basic but you didn't factor in the pH of the water it is being mixed with. Unless you mix your washes with bottled Evian the pH of the diluent water is going to have a lower pH which will lower the pH of the wash. Guys i realize this is a very unorthodox manner of washing a car and am not here beating the drum for it per say. I simply have used it for years (plural) with NO ill effects toward any paint surface. Beerlover has the right idea, try some test washes on a secondary vehicle to see for yourself. I've used pretty much every product mentioned in this forum over the years and have liked all of them a great deal. IMHO the Oil soap gave the prettiest shine with the least amount labor.
