Did you look in the mirror? Washing a car is good excercise. Anyhow, Meguairs has one place in the entire country that does detailing and it's in Lake Forest. Their prices are resonable and they do an excellent job. My buddy takes his black BMW X3 and it comes out looking perfect. They are factory owned and understand their products really well. The problem I have with many detailers is they used very aggresive products to get the job done quicker. It comes out looking great but continued use of products that are too aggresive is will cause the clear coat to fail prematurely. If it's a 3 year lease, nothing to worry about, if you keep cars 6 years or more then you way want to worry. I used to take my Suburban to a detailer near my house that did a good job until after the car was 5 years old or so the hood paint wore down to the primer, but it was shiny primer, haha. So just having a job that looks good is not good enough for me. Interview the detailer and ask what they use and then check it out on the forum from the detailing fanatics and see if it's justified.
One last thought, it case you do want to do it yourself. Check with meguiar's forum, they teach a class almost every Saturday at their headquarters in Irvine and you can get in if the club that's being taught has room that week. It's an excellent class on how to detail your own car (by hand or orbital buffer) and they provide lunch and giveaways. You get to use all their products and tools to detail your own car there if you want to or just watch.
Yes, I have looked in the mirror. I look pretty damn good actually I'm sure its good exercise, but I work over 60 hours/week. I don't really want to spend the little free time I have left washing my car. I'd rather go kayaking, swimming, bicycle riding, etc.
I'd rather leave the car to the professionals.
I didn't know Meguairs had a place in Lake Forest. I knew they were in Irvine, but thanks for the information. I'll have to check it out.
Thanks again.

Check out www.meguiarsonline.com . That is Meguiar's online forum and if you become a member (free), you can sign up to attend a Thursday night "Open Garage" at their HQ. Been to one, and it was a great experience to try new products and methods for car detailing. Plus, dinner is provided.
Yup, I'd attend if I wanted to wash my car on my own. I did speak to them however, and their detailing place in Lake Forest closed dwon a year ago. They gave me the name of a guy who details and only uses Meguiars products. I don't know if thats a great way to go. I can't imagine that everything they make is the best.
I just have a limited amount of personal time each week, and I don't want to spend hours and hours washing my car.

While in general I can't say Meguiars makes the best products for every situation, between them and 3M, those are the two largest and oldest companies that sell automotive waxes. Also consider that the products they sell to detailers and professionals is not what you buy at Pep Boys and I would agree that most of that is not good quality polishes. What I would be concerned with more than what products they use is do they use them properly hence the recomendation to use their factory location but I didn't realized the closed down since I do my own work and let MB of LN wash my car weekly for free (Fletcher Jones by you also does car washes for free but I've only taken my kid's SLK there once and it was fine), they do an outstanding job, don't have swirl issues with them. Also MB of LN has detailed black cars for me as a bribe in return for good survey results and the car came out perfect both times.
Well, Meguairs recommended someone to me who only uses Meguiars. Thats probably the reason I won't go to him. I'd rather go to a detailer that will use the best product for each purpose.
As far as FJNB detailing my car, thats a joke. I initially didn't want them to detail my car during prep, but the sales guy convinced me FJNB has a full detail facility that isn't where the free car washes take place and everything is amazing.
Well, it wasn't. There aren't any swirl marks, but the other day the back window fogged up and you could see the towel marks. I found dried wax in various cracks. Of course, I should have listened to the nearly 2 dozen people that told me that there isn't a dealership in the country that does a good job washing or detailing.
