My kids got chewing gum on the gray leather of my car seats.
Any tips on removing this stuff. I tried leather cleaning wipes that do nothing.
Thanks for any help
If gum is still soft, try a regular brown paper bag.....not the thick kind you put your groceries in, but the smaller brown paper bags you put small things in.
I've done it on fabric/clothing it works well, but never on leather. But I would imagine it would still work;
Depending on how much gum.....It could be a bit time consuming but it works!
Is you leather perferated where the gum is?
Also peanut butter works well believe it or not, but if your seats are perferated that WOULDN'T be the way to go! Also WD-40, and Goo be Gone (I have never used Goo be Gone) But people say its good for guey stuff
I would start with the paper bag first, because you will not be putting any chemicals on your leather. You may have to warm the gum up first with hair dryer or when car is hot from standing in the sun......so it will stick to the paper bag better.
so the list is:
Brown paper bag.
Peanut butter
WD-40
Goo Be Gone
Hope this helps.

Reason: adding text
1. hot water towel, get as much as you can peel off first.
2. hot semi-soapy towel(hand soap or ajax liquid), to help break down the proteins in the gum. no need to soak the towel.
3. repeat step one until the gum is completely off.
don't wait til the gum is black, it'll be too hard to get off
good luck.

Whatever you try, try it on an inconspicuos area first. Cows aren't gray , which means you could remove color if you use the wrong solution, especially one with solvents in it.
Ice can harden gum to the point where it can be scraped or chipped off, but I've never used that method on leather. If you decode to go that route, put some ice in a thin plastic bag so you can get the gum cold but not get the seat wet.

Try a very cold Ice Cube! Once it freezes up the gum; you can pluck it off.
WD-40 also works like a charm, however, you MUST test it in an inconspicuous spot first, to make sure it does not further harm your Leather.
Lastly; Goof Off! also works.
Also test in inconspicuous area first. After all done and said; re-treat Leather with
Lexol or Leather Conditioner. Good Luck.

freezing wart remover (not the liquid stuff.....). It will break off. I've removed it from rugs (and hair) this way. You can be very precise in what you freeze with this stuff.
