Question Recommended car detailers (and bad ones)

Who has done a good job detailing your car.
I am sure I am not the only one who would like to find a good detailer. If you have a RECOMMENDATION or a WARNING please post it.

Thanks...

only warning I have is....don't wash your car with anything execpt Ajax. it's the best thing on the market for keeping your paint clean between polishings.

and don't believe the hype that ajax harms your paint because it won't. it lifts the dirt off as safe as it does your own dishes.

good luck

There are various lists you can find on sites, like Autopia, where you can post in that section or area where you live and seek out a pro detailer. I believe ValuGard also has a pro list.

The best way to find a detailer though is go ask someone who has a well groomed car. Ask them who cares for their car and if they would recommend them.

Lastly, no professional detailer with any training would recommend ANY dish washing soap for cleaning your car after it has been polished and waxed because it will remove the wax and/or polymers that where just applied to the paint. If dish soap was so great at maintaining your cars finish then ALL manufacturers of car soaps would use the same type of surfactants in their car shampoo's. Will it get your car "squeaky clean"? You bet it will. Which also means that nothing is on your paint....wax nor sealants! It's all gone because dish soaps are designed to cut and remove grease and oils.

Actualy that is the best advice anyone can give you. I think what he ment was if you see a car particularly nice and you have the chance to inquire on thier cleaning methods you may be able to find a good detailer. I do detailing by appointment only here in San Diego. If I was you and I did find a detailer, I would ask some of thier customers what they think of the price and quality of the work. Good luck

Personally, I would avoid anyone who uses such harsh detergents on paint.

Recommendation (or Review) on Detailers (Car Wash) by Region

Before I begin, I would like to emphasize that I do not have any commercial intention.

Just thought about this, while I was reading this thread.

What about we start a thread on recommendation or review on detailers by region?

Basically, let's starts a post with area (mostly state and city) we are logging on and make a comment, review, recommendation, or whatever about detailers or car wash place that each of us has been to in the area.

Due to my job environment, I travel/relocate often. Whenever I go to new area, I have to start a whole new search to take care my lovely Mercedes-Benz. At the moment, I am in Bay Area in NorCal.

What do you think?

If you guys like this idea, can a moderator make a new thread with this topic sticky?
