I had a pair of cobra leather seats from a mustang that felt like dried cardboard. I took them out of the car, cleaned with leatherique, and then conditioned them with leatherique.
I let them sit out in the sun for an afternoon, then wiped clean. They were still a bit 'paperish" feeling so I applied Griot's Leather Restorer (its thicker than than Griot's leather treatment).
The next day I let the seats heat up, applied the leather restorer and let them sit for a few hours. I then put some leather restorer in the palms of my hands and massaged it into the leather. This took a bit of time, but the seats came out looking great. They were black seats, so I used black shoe polish to fill in the 'cracks', followed by a shoe brush to buff the seats. Then followed by a final treatment of leatherique and let it sit for a few days before re-installing the seats.
They came out looking pretty phenomenal, I would say very close to new.
You don't have to remove the seats, I just did them to let them sit out in the sun.
Leatherique. The Previous owner of my ride didn't seem to care about conditioning the leather so it was pretty hard and I was starting to see some hairline cracking and was getting worried. I bought leatherique and applied it last week. Let it sit in my car and get absorbed into my leather and WOW. The leather is much softer, though it has a long way to go. Can't wait to do it again in 2 months when it is hot so it gets absorbed even better!
Yeah, the seats in my SL were really discolored so I went and got this 'paint' stuff. After applying it, the seats felt like 'paint' not leather. The color is palomino. What can I do to fix this?
With ALL leather, you want to keep it moist so you won't end up with cracks in it. the best thing to use is all cases is mink oil. it moisturizes leather and keeps it looking like leather and not pleather(faux leather).
