Which “hide” swirls better? Obsidian Black or Jet Black?
Currently I have Brilliant Silver and am loving it!! Almost no swirl shown even with just twice a year MCgwire NXT wax. For the next car, I want Black for a change
Personally I prefer the JetBlack WHEN it is clean and swirl-free as it has more shining black, but that’s a very2 high maintenance on the paint finish (at least for me). So I am thinking maybe the metallic in Obsidian black will reduce swirl shown.
Can anyone advise:
- which “hide” swirls better?
- which “hide” scratches better?
- And which is easier to apply touch up paint (for like rock chip on the front bumper or hood)
ObsidianBlack or Jet Black?
Thanks much in advance
This was my opinion in another post about Obsidian vs Gloss Black, hope it helps
I would have to agree to an extent. If you dont detail your car much and just want a black then go with the gloss. On the other hand, I have Obsidian Black and detail the body very well and get alot of compliments. Its cool because at night, its black with a nice shine to it, during the day the matalic sparkles especialy after waxing. The only downside which is the case with any metalic car is scratches stand out and you will have to realy keep her clean because of the expanding of the paint mix in heat and cold. Oh, and any metalic paint from touch up, spot painting or full paint job will cost alot more than a regular gloss black. If you looked at them side by side you may want the gloss black, but it also depends the interior combo.
I've detailed alot of cars and car colors. Dark metallic colors show more clear coat blemishes then other types of paint jobs. Thats just my opinion. What I have noticed though, is if you realy buff your metallic good and keep her clean she will end up looking a little better. Swirls, in my opinion stand out on any car.

LISTEN, ANY Black NEEDS a ton of maintaince to look 100% all the time. My work truck is Blk. Met. and I have to work My Ass off to keep it looking NICE!!!! It stays under cover EVERY NIGHT and I still have to wash it 3 times a week and buff & wax at least once a year If you don't want a second job, Go with Silver or RED!!!!!!!!!!
I have an Obsidian Black, check the pics in wet sanding hood and headlights, see for your self when you maintain it. Drag is right, but when done you will like it, but like I said you have to maintain the metallic black.
