How to detail my car appropriately?

Hey all -

I was wondering what type of materials is needed to detail my car appropriately and make it look really nice for the summer. I am looking to do the exterior and interior. My carpet and floormats are really worn out from the winter snow, sand, and salt! I have a black 2003 C320. Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

If you don't know what to use and have a black car, break out the wallet and have a professional detailer take care of it.

^I agree.
Get a local pro to come by and do the car. Once they are done have them give you a quick tutorial on how to wash using the two bucket method and how to maintain.

They are called Mobile Detailers and you should do a little research and call one, IMO. Also, I did a search using "detailing" and "black car" and came up w/ nearly 100 threads here. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/sear...earchid=914915 I did the same search in the Detailing forum and got these results: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/sear...earchid=914926

There was a song in the 80's that had the chorus of "Black Cars look better in the shade". I once had RX-7 that was black. Never again will that be a colour of choice for me. The car looked great when freshly washed but that lasted about 20 minutes .

For a good background on detailing try reading the online detailers handbook that's available at the top of this forum. Naturally they are pushing their products but it has lot of valuable information and is an excellent place to start. I personally have never used their products but they seem to have a good reputation.

Over my existing MB Mats I put an All Rubber Mat with Deep Pockets.
That will capture all sand, rain, salt etc
So when I wash the car, I spray the Mats with Degreaser, scrub it
with the brush and hose it off.
Thereby my Original MB Mats are protected.
Just a thought...

My MB mats are only $99 and they lasted seven years w/ regular cleaning. Hardly worth the time, money or hassle of putting clunky rubber things over them, IMO.

Are you going to be doing this by hand or using a PC?

What products do you currently have and how old are they? Have they been frozen?

Are you willing to take eight hours or more to work on the exterior?

Can you post up a picture of your car?

Now I should suggest what the others have voiced and say find a moblie detailer but it sounds like you want to learn and do this yourself. If so let me know and I will try and help you out.

Some of my clients I only see every five or six months and they take care of the regular washing and clean ups in between appointments.
As a fixed location I give classes to my clients who show an interest in taking care of their baby. Sure I lose them for monthly appointments but they send all their friends to me so it works out just great for everybody.

I assist them and they assist me...great clients!

Al
