Scratches on interior wood console?

Does anybody know how to remove scratches from the wood console, primarily around the gear shifter, cupholder cover and the ashtray cover. It's a real shame, the rest of the interior is immaculate. The scratches aren't deep, but you can feel them with finger nail and see them in a certain light. Failing everything else, what would replacement parts cost. Probably an arm and a leg.

Try Meguiars Scratch X followed by a coat of wax.

I actually tried that exact product minus the waxing step and it didn't do much. Thanks anyways.

Our interior wood trim scratches so easily that I wish MB would come up with a better coating for it. Some people have said they are coated with lacquer, and others polyurethane.

I think we need to get a definitive answer to what it is exactly before we start using anything on it.

I believe our wood trim is coated w/ a hard lacquer of some type. Mine shows absolutely no signs of scratches, but I treat just as I do the lacquer finish on my car's paint--polish & wax. If it become too scratched it may be difficult to fix. Scratch X is a good product, but it sometimes requires a dozen or more hard rubbing applications. It really requires elbow grease to begin to have an effect. You could try something more abrasive, but be careful not to go through the lacquer finish.

Mine is in pretty good shape too Jayhawk, and all I have ever had to do is to dust them once in a while with a microfiber towel. IMO, the tiny scratches on mine are not worth worrying about. Pete said he can feel his with a fingernail, so I would call those "deep" and would most likely be asking the same question.

I think the coatings on our wood have improved over the years like the coating/clearcoat they put on our paint. In fact, they may put clearcoat on our wood now for all I know.

OK, you have a 2000 S-class and I have a 2001 E-class. They are roughly comparable, but who knows where all of the differences are, other than included options?

I think I know that for any given year, the S has better leather than the E, but what about the wood trim? If you have any inkling, please let us all know.

If you can feel the scratches with your fingernail it is probably too deep to rub out.

If not try some powdered rotten stone with a little linseed oil as a carrier. Back and forth, easy does it and then hit with polish and wax.

Zill.
