Looking for a Buffer/Polisher

I'm looking to buy a orbital polisher/buffer....there is lot of mention about Porter Cable 7336 DA buffer/sander at Lowes for $99...how does this compare with the Meguairs G100A...any recommendations for which one I should go for...

if there are others out there please let me know..
thanks in advance..

The P-C seems to be VERY POPULAR, As a matter of fact, Its what I use, Someone said a while ago that the one from Lowes DOESNOT come with a very good pad!!!! JUST remember the pad is the MOST important part of this deal. you can always up-grade the pad later. These are VERY to use and its ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to hurt the paint!!!!!!!!!! Start with the ajustable speed control at about 4 1/2 and POLISH to your hearts content Have fun!!!!!!!!

Looking at the G100A it appears that it was manufactured by Porter Cable and then a Meguiars label put on it.

Porter Cable makes 2 very similar buffers, the only difference is the counter weight inside and it wouldn't really make any difference in how it works, the 7336 and 7224. The G100 from Meguiars is a 7224. If for some reason the psycological effects of not having the exact same counter weight bothers you, you can get replacement counter weights for a few dollars. The advantage of the G100 if you can get it at a good price is that Megiars warranties it for life, comes with a proper backing plate and 1 pad.

I found this site in my search for a buffer/polisher. They provide a Porter Cable 'Kit' that comes all inclusive including pands, backing, even sand paper for $189....seems pretty reasonable to me for all you get. FYI

The Porter Cable kit you described is exactly what you get from Lowes for $99 (sometimes cheaper on sale). The pad and sanding paper are no good, throw aways, dissintegrates while you use it. $149 is a great price for the G100a because you get the $99.99 buffer plus about $25 for the Megs backing plate and pad so for the $25 difference you get great support from Meguiars and a lifetime warranty (vs. 1 yr with PC). I would do that. The reason I went the other route is at the time Meguiars wanted over $200.

Hey Buellwinkle,
Thanks for clarifying what's in these 'kits', I'm off to Lowes!

SunGuy61,

The website you mention is great. I would recommend the Cyclo Polisher. It is awesome. It will not disappoint you. Whatever it costs now, it is worth. I have been using my Cyclo for about 4 years and it makes polishing/waxing addicting. It is very easy to use. It is expensive but worth it.
