I believe the entire panel needs to be re-finished if you want the clearcoat re-done. I have been told several times that you can't successfully lay down fresh clear without having issues.

Have you had a professional detailer in your area look at the car? A good detailer can work minor miracles and preclude a trip to the body shop.

Without seeing pictures of the damage, we're strictly guessing on all of this.

Depends on where the scratch is, you can use my method on my website using primer, color then clear, came out good for me but I wouldn't do a very visible spot like the hood or door. You didn't say what color you had but when I had color 040 black on my last MB I used a permanent marker to touch it up and then wipe the excess with my finger. If you a more colorful color like green, blue, red you can get the turtle wax with the color dye in it. It's good for about 2 car washes before it washes out.

Try the MB touch-up paint first. Your color will come with a vial of color and a vial of clearcoat. I think I paid about $20 for it.

Someone said elsewhere to use a paper match and NOT the brush that comes in the kit. I have yet to use mine, so I am just telling you what I read on one of these threads.
