Best practice for cleaning carpets

Give your thoughts on best practices. In the past I have done everything to my own cars except this. My SL's carpet is better than my 300z or escalade's so I wanted to make sure I don't mess it up. I just got new floor mats for it and made me really notice the drivers side carpets needs cleaning. I have the parchment beige interior. But if it is something that needs to be down professionally that is fine.

The way pro's do it is with a hot water extractor, a simple machine that's sort of a $1,000 version of a home carpet cleaning machine. You can get a cheap version like the Bissell Little Green Machine but it won't be as good. The poor man's approach is to get carpet cleaner product, spray it on and use a good interior brush to scrub it in and clean it up and then use absorbent cotton terry towels and rub them in hard to absorb the dirt and soap away. This has always been too big a chore for me and never comes out as good as with a hot water extractor. It's better to go to a car wash that has a pro quality extractor, pay them $50 give or take and let them do it. I've taken my wife's car and had them do only that, told them I wax it myself.

Thats what I was thinking. Hell it is at the upolstery shop now getting the top fixed and adding new padding to the drivers seat. I will just call down there and see if they can do it.

My former MB was a '98 E430 with that beige interior. The dealer I use sent me a coupon for a $99 detail that is normally $129 (the works). I bit the bullet and had them do it. I couldn't believe the difference they made in that carpet.

The next time I'm in there, I'm going to ask them what they used. If it hasn't been addressed here, I'll add that to this thread.
