I have the all season floor mats for my 2002 ML500, they are the grey mats. Well there is a brown layer of dirt on the top of the mat, not in the ridges, just on the top. Anyone know the best way to remove it? It isnt that big a deal, just does look that clean.
I would try using a scrub brush and Simple Green. Afterwards you can put some tire dressing on it then wipe off the excess. This should darken it up after you clean it.
I would personally use 303 Aerospace protectant instead of tire dressing, but at $13 a bottle you may not want to use it on your floormats.

I have the black all season floor mats for my ML since 99. I pressure wash them and it gets them clean. This gets them cleaner than soap and brush and less work too. I have been doing this for the last 6 years and no sign of damage by doing this.
