Brand New E 500 With Scratches and Swirls

Just returned from the dealer where I refused delivery of my 05 e 500 black with AMG appearance pkg. There are fine swirl scratches in the clear coat and some deeper scratches on the hood that are not in a swirl pattern. I cant believe that these dealers do not know how to detail there own cars prior to sale! It seems like a common problem. The manager seemed clueless. He said " what do you want to do?". How am I supposed to know? I said call the factory and find somebody that is familiar with this paint. Any ideas out there?

Make them eat it! If they want to deal in fine automobiles they have to learn to treat their vehicles right and have the right personnel.

The other day I was having my Mercedes serviced, in the meantime I was milling around the dealership looking at the new vehicles, it was puzzling for me to see SL500’s and the like parked on the lot and away from the main building with dust and grime from the traffic begging for mischief, if it was my dealership the whole lot would be fenced in and closed at night and under some kind of roof, after all they have a fortune in inventory, go and figure.

Sorry to hear of your predicament. I wouldn't have taken it as well. Look for $1000/- compensation per swirl....so they'll remember to look out for presentation ethics in the future.

Best of luck!

Are you sure that your "Black" is a clearcoat? The only reason that I ask is that the standard Black (040) is a single-stage paint, only the metallic blacks are clearcoated. What's the diff? It is easier to get swirls and scratches out of a single stage paint like 040 IMHO. Any of the ordinary paint cleaners will do a credible job of minimizing the appearance of scratches, and once you've had it properly glazed/polished, it will be breath-taking.
