I was getting my car ready for the Wine/Cheese/Auto/Fashion show today, and I had the toughest time getting the tar off. So I drove to Auto Zone and pick me up some clay. I spray on the Meguiars quick detail and clayed. I was amazed how easy the tar and bugs came off. I clayed the whole car in less time that it would take me to use the other products. I guess I will never use the Bug and Tar remover again or the Mercedes Paint cleaner.
I was so excited on discovering clay that I ran in the house and told my wife that claying is better than sex. I forgot about the Tupperware party that my wife's friend was having at our house. All those ladies laugh.
Below is what I did to get my shine on the car.
I washed with Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo.
I clayed with Meguiars clay and Quick Detail.
I polished with Meguiars Crystal Polish.
I wax with Meguiars Gold Class Wax.
I am about to do the same thing today! Bought the same thing. And im about to touch up some wash the car. Clay it and wax it then im going to do some touch up paint on it.. Or i just might wash it then touch it up and then clay and wax the car (minus the parts i waxed and clayed...)
I just detailed my car recently and I think it's time for some claying. By what I've been reading it seems claying will remove surface dirt and stuff that's embedded in the paint? My car has alot of those and sure enough I need to take those out to give it a smooth feel.
Tiggerfink, I did the last two of the processes you posted (polishing with Meguiar's DC Polish and waxing with Meguiar's GC Wax) and they give a tremendous shine! The best combination I've ever had since I got my car. I actually did it with a friend who has a 1990 Accord and he was impressed with the results. The only difference is we used Meguiar's DC Paint Cleaner first to remove oxidation.
It just rained, when I clean my car and when my friend does the same with his we'll meet up and take alot of pics. But might post them after a week because school's back (after Thanksgiving break). And he's also going to detail his other friend's car, a 1990 Corolla, which is in the same condition as his car.
hey tiggerfink,
do you have dark color car??? if so try your method, as listed above, but instead of meguairs wax, try mother's. i got great results. i have a black clk and usually put a couple coats of polish on first, but the combo of meguairs and mothers has left my car feeling smooth...
by the way, dont tell your wife that you probably spend a few hours waxing your car like i do, got me in a heap of trouble [:p]
