What to do with Little Black (tar???) Residues on Hood and Roof??

What are these tiny round black "dots" on my hood? I assume it's tar. How do I get rid of them? Are they on the wax only or do these things penetrate to the clearcoat? Thanks.

RE: What to do with Little Black (tar???) Residues on Hood and Roof??

They do not penetrate into the clear although they can stain the paint in some cases, although it is rare.

There are many ways to remove tar, one basic one is with a de-greaser BUT use caution as many de-greasers warn not to get them on paint and glass. The safest way is with a tar/wax remover http://www.topoftheline.com/tarwaxremover.html

This is a handy item to have around as yesterday I detailed an Acura with alot of kids crayons melted into the cup holders....I removed the cup holders and sprayed them with Hi-Temps Tar/Wax remover and let it sit for a few seconds then hosed them off. It removed all the crayon.

It does the same for tar. Wash the car as usual, rinse it and then spray the tar spots. Let it dwell a few minutes then use one of these http://www.topoftheline.com/bugtarsponge1.html to remove the tar. Always seal your paint after using a product like this as it removes all prior waxes.

Hope that helps,
Anthony

Thanks Anthony, I'll try those products. The question I have is this:

Are these little dots tree sap or tar? Is the treatment for tar you just gave me applicable to tree sap?

If they are not strongly attached to your paint, You could use "1Z Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner". It is a great product that works almost as magic.

Just spray some of it before washing, let it rest for 2-3 minutes. Then you can buff a little bit with a bug-sponge (try the one suggested by Anthony), then rinse and wash your car with your normal shampoo. Its is perfectly safe to use on your paint.

I pre-wash my car with this 1Z product, on a daily basis. You do not need to wax after using it.

Anthony: Your fame and prestige precedes you!!
I have heard lots of great things from some of your customers in San Antonio.

Regards

Do not use any bug&Tar remover or any chemicals on the surface.

Do it the professional way...get yourself some Clay Bar. (search the forum on the word Clay Bar). This stuff is like magic. Works better than Bug&Tar and does not damage your clear coat. This is the stuff that Professional Detailers use, and it's not expensive.
