Brand NEW 2005

Could someone explain to me what the proper procedures are to washing and detailing a brand new mercedes? Will the color (Granite Grey) affect how I need to polish or wax or claybar or whatever I'm supposed to do to it? Also, explain to me what the difference is with waxes and polishes, with cleaning agents or without, and when to use whatever. And Finally can someone explain to me what I should be using (ie. 1-car wash, 2-polish, 3-wax), and also suggest a brand. ALL OF THIS READING OF WAXES AND POLISHES HAVE MADE ME TOTALLY CONFUSED ON WHAT TO USE AND WHEN!! [:(]

RE: Brand NEW 2005

I am no expert but I have a new 04 and faced the same problem. I washed the car, applied paint cleaner and then used a polish/protectant. I think, given hte car was new, washed and just polished and protected. I used the Mercedes products which are made by Maguire's. Some people like Maguire's NXT Gen (which is not what MB sells -- they sell the Maguire's MEdallion). Some swear by Zaino. Look at the other postings. I hope this helps.

RE: Brand NEW 2005

Thanks PBglas. Although I wanted to know more about what the polish and waxes are made for and when to use it. Sorta a step by step thing, what its made for and when to use it. I guess something like Detailing for Idiots. [:)]

Sorry about that, it is www.autopia.org. However there may be some great hints at cleaning out small crevices.[:0]

RE: Brand NEW 2005

Ok, I'll try to make this as simple as possible. Since your car is new, the most important thing to do is maintain the vehicle and then you wont have to worry about heavy duty cleaners, etc. Here goes:

1 wash vehicle weekly using maguires gold class car wash. Wash in shade while surface is cool. Rinse completely and dry car with sythetic material such as the absorber or 100% cotton towels.

2 IMMEDIATELY or as soon as possible, remove any bug splatters from paint. Bugs are acidic and will leave a permanent mark if left on paint.

3 Wax car quarterly using Maguires #26 liquid wax. Apply with 100% cotton towel or application pad. Let dry to haze and then remove with 100% cotton towel and final buff with additional towel.

4 Every 6 months, polish car with Maguires #9 Polish before waxing. Again apply and remove with 100% cotton towels.

If you follow this routine, your car should continue to shine just like the day it was new.

RE: Brand NEW 2005

Gatorbenz! Thanks that was just what I was looking for. Step by step with what product to use! I hope that this isnt asking too much though. But what is the difference with all the cleaner polishes, no cleaner polish, wax or final wax. Clay bars. What the heck do those things mean, what do they do and when do I use it?
