To clean your top use Wolfstein's Raggtopp Cleaner.

RE: Soft Top Cleaning

More of a question here (for BYEBYE) than an answer.

Many moons ago I had a convertible Saab 900 and the salesman told me to clean bird crap off the top using baking soda and water. Words of wisdom....or a bunch of crap?

Well, the only plausible reason I can think of for the baking soda advice is, bird dookie contains VERY high amounts of uric acid, much more so than other animals. The baking soda is a pretty strong base so he may have thought the soda would neutralize the acid in the bird dookie.

Other than that, thats a new one on me LOL. I just usually use soap and water!

If you wipe the crap off a SAAB, then you're left with just the wheels...

Hahahahahaha how right you are.Thank you for making me laugh today. The thing is a work colleague has a Saab convertible (old one) and in the slightest bit of nice weather he has the top of it in the car park at work and he walks round like a peacock. Getting my SL tomorrow so cant wait to see his face on Monday.

RE: Soft Top Cleaning

I have since found that vacuuming the soft works well. In addition, because I have a cat in the neighborhood that likes to sleep on my roof, I invested in a MB car cover. It's a pain to put and take off every day but does keep the car clean.

RE: Soft Top Cleaning

The baking soda tip sounds like a variation on the recommended use of seltzer water for cleaning many stains.

It's the bubbling that supposedly helps, lifting the stain out rather than soaking it in, and doing so with a fairly neutral solution.

But I've never thought to use it on my top. May try next time.

RE: Soft Top Cleaning

Raggtop has excellent offerings, it's the BMW recommended product line.

I am currently using the Porsche products on our convertible. They work well, but I don't have anything to compare against.

I use the Porsche protectant (like Scotchguard) once per year and just rinse the soft top at every wash. I never use the Porsche soap unless there is a stain. Convertible top stills appears brand-new.

RE: Soft Top Cleaning

When cleaning my soft top roof I use the Mothers products, found them to be the only ones that work, tried all the rest and they did not work.

I had a copy of Classic and Sports car recently and it gave me a product from them called Plastic Window cleaner.

This stuff is the dogs *******, my rear windows were all yellow and very faded, now they are like new again and it even took out scratches.

The review went up against all types of products on the market.

Worth a look at the products, they worked for me very well, I would reccomend you try them
