RE: I f'ed up

I don't have paint chips, but I do have some gouges in the clear coat. Any suggestions?

" Then what would you suggest to use on a 20 year old car that has good paint? I've tried Meguiar's Paint Cleaner, Polish and then Mother's California Gold Carnauba Wax. So far it's been OK, can you suggest anything else? I'd like more shine, though."

Is nine months too long to reply to a post?? LOL! I swapped out computers and havnt been back here lately.

It is my experience that early 80s MBZ (especially the yellow ones) oxidize very easily. If that is the case with yours, you are going to have to remove (deep clean) the top layer of oxidized dead paint before you can polish the “good paint.

Here is a thread I posted of a MBZ I restored a shine on. If you have any questions after reading the thread , please ask away ----

What do you think of Zaino's products. I have used the clay bar and their polish products and get an unbelievable shine.

I have never tried Zanio products. I am pretty happy with what we use now, basicly -if it isn't broke don't fix it.

RE: I f'ed up

I have been using Autoglym products for a few years & am very happy with the results -- great shine for not much work. Both, polish & protectant go on & come off easily. Can't beat the shine for the price.

Great to use when you don't have much time to detail your car, & with a 2 year old toddler I'm lucky to have two to three hours when he takes his nap to wash & wax.

I have tried many other products, & Autoglym is my favorite.

One thing to watch out for is fumes from these products. It is best to use them outdoors, or in a ventilated area.
