What does everybody think about gold plated badges and emblems. I have split opinions on them, on some cars they look really good and on others they look tacky. I was considering getting some for my '88 260E. It is £92($150) for the full set which includes:
Hood emblem
260E badge for the boot/trunk
3 pointed star for boot/trunk
That price includes shipping to the UK as they are not available here. I'm not decided yet though
RE: gold badges. If you want your car to look like a lexus get a lexus.
I am sorry to say but if you want your car to look like a lexus you should get a lexus. Your car looks great. I am not saying this because I want to insult you but I feel that a Mercedes does not need to have gold tin foil on it to look good. The reason Lexus, Toyota, and so many other cars have this gold plating on them is because they feel inferior to cars like Mercedes. You should rather spend your $ on a AMG spoiler. -Good luck and enjoy your car for its quality and its good styling. -Kristian

Well part of me thought that already, and thinking about it an //AMG spoiler would look a hell of a lot better, but I just can't find anywhere that sells them. Any clues?

I think they have one for your car. I am buying one for my car and it costs around 360$. I have heard that these spoilers are really good quality and most of them have brake lights on them.
-Good luck. -Kristian

You could check with mercman (http://www.mercman.co.uk) he had a gold boot badge which he was selling for a fiver plus P&P.
He never answered my emails so I didn't buy it, not that I was actually going to put it on my car, just wanted it for kitsch value (My car's black, gold badges would make it look cheap and ricey [;)])
[:D]I think that the gold badges on cars are very nice depending on your car's colour. It has got nothing to do with the Lexus or Toyota manufacturers. If you look at a market study on some buyers, you would learn that the gold badges are requested by them not the manufacturers who are only supplying them to meet the demand for such things. Nothing ricey about this. Just that some types of buyers want to make their cars look prettier or look more expensive by adding or asking for these things. May look better on the Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas than Mercedes Benzs.
